Dear , I'm always saying activism should be fun. The issues may be (and often are) deadly serious, but that does not mean you can't sometimes have fun. We have a couple meetings coming up that combine the social with the serious. Oh - and after 9-1/2 years as founding president of PHDC, and really loving working with so many of you over the years as the club sought to make its mark on city politics, I've decided to step down. Don't get me wrong, it is still fun, but I need to spend more time with my fam - I mean, get back into doing art! Both of those, actually. The club will be in good hands: 1st VP Tony Kelly is standing by to take over in July. To help ensure that this very worthwhile club can continue its activities into the ever-more-expensive future, please renew your membership now. Thank you! Wishing you a happy and peaceful Passover, Joni Eisen, President

WHAT: PHDC monthly meeting WHEN: Tuesday, May 3rd at 7pm WHERE: Potrero Hill Neighborhood House, 953 De Haro @ Southern Heights |
Upcoming opportunities for action

Now. A message from the Saint Francis Homelessness Challenge team, whose director, Amy Farah Weiss, recently appeared at PHDC in a panel on homelessness solutions:
The Mayors' Office HOPE Team (Housing Opportunities, Partnerships & Engagement) is proposing a Homeless Navigation Center at the end of 24th Street, adjacent to Warm Water Cove Park. The land is a Port of San Francisco property, not city property. The HOPE Team would like to launch the new Navigation Center in October, 2016 - this is considered a fast track project. Please let us know if you support a new Navigation Center at this site as a neighbor (94107 zip code), nearby resident (94158, 94124, or 94110), or San Francisco resident, by taking 2 minutes to register your level of support. Learn more here about Navigation Centers as an innovative and humane approach to transitioning unhoused residents into permanent housing. Monday, April 25 at 6pm, 555 Franklin St, first floor. School in Mission Bay
The school board's Buildings, Grounds, and Services Committee meets to discuss the 2016 school bond. Although the Mission Bay Master Plan included a school and land designated for it, there is still no school. The attendance range for the school would include Dogpatch and Potrero. If any parents out there would like to speak on behalf of building such a school (and putting a line item in the 2016 school bond), here's the meeting agenda. Here is more info on the issue from our friends in the South Beach D6 Dems.
Tuesday, April 26, 5 - 8pm, 11 Grove St. First phone bank for Prop A
Prop A will help San Francisco respond and recover quickly after a natural disaster with more efficient rescue services and earthquake-safe hospitals and community health centers. To get the ⅔ vote to pass, they need as many volunteers as possible. Phone banks will continue through April and May on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Hosted by Yes on SF Health - Prop A. Sign up to volunteer here.
PHDC will be out registering voters and publicizing our club and its endorsements, somewhere on 22nd St between Indiana and Third St. Look for the ironing board with the banner. To sign up for a tabling shift, email Gary. See you out there!
Sunday, May 1, doors open 2pm, begins at 3. Caucuses
Clinton location: Laborers Local 261, 3271 18th St at Shotwell.
Sanders location: Chez Poulet, 3359 Cesar Chavez St betw Mission & Shotwell.

April meetings followup: endorsements
|
PHDC's two April endorsement meetings got pretty good reviews from the candidates:
- Superior Court Judge and (reps for) President, April 5th - "very engaged membership" "a spirited, yet respectful, conversation" "thoughtful and engaging discussion" "actually learned a lot about Prop B."
- SF DCCC, April 12th - "most innovative format" "best forum ever" "I had fun" "best of the 12 I've been in" "the most meaningful endorsement to date" "the best interview of all of the clubs I went to."
Thanks candidates for the kind words - we loved hosting you!
The endorsements U.S. President - No position. SF Superior Court Judge - No position. This is because no one candidate in either race got the 60% necessary for the club to endorse. We will revisit these races in November, after the "Top Two" primary, and cover statewide races then too.
SF Democratic County Central Committee, AD 17 - Alysabeth Alexander, Tom Ammiano, David Campos, Petra DeJesus, Bevan Dufty, Jon Golinger, Pratima Gupta, Frances Hsieh, Jane Kim, Rafael Mandelman, Sophie Maxwell, Aaron Peskin, Cindy Wu
Ballot measures. More info (brief explanations) can be found on our web site. A - YES Public Health and Safety Bond B - NO Park, Recreation and Open Space Fund C - Yes Affordable Housing Requirements D - Yes Office of Citizen Complaints Investigations E - Yes Paid Sick Leave AA - Yes Clean and Healthy Bay Parcel Tax Prop 50 - Yes Suspension of Legislators Amendment
