ISSUE #74  FEBUARY, 2015
Dear , PHDC logo

There's a lot going on this week - and then we have a meeting. I hope to see you somewhere out there.

Joni Eisen, President
Meeting Tuesday, March 3
  City Attorney Dennis Herrera
SF City Attorney Dennis Herrera has been busy with cases protecting children from sex trafficking, defending evicted tenant relocation payments, protecting City College from the ACCJC, challenging the State Lands Commission's attempt to nullify Proposition B, suing the manufacturer of a caffeine-ridden energy drink for marketing to young children, championing gay rights for years, and much more. We are honored that he is taking the time to come speak to his neighborhood club! This is your chance to hear and ask him about whichever facet of his work most interests you.

Social Security works, but Republicans still want to destroy it. As Senator Elizabeth Warren said, "The GOP is inventing a Social Security crisis that will threaten benefits for millions and put our most vulnerable at risk." PHDC board member Bob Boileau will tell you about the threat and what we can do about it right now (also see below for a related book event tomorrow afternoon).

Members will consider and vote on several possible amendments to the Bylaws.

WHEN: Tuesday, March 3rd at 7pm
WHERE: Potrero Hill Neighborhood House, 953 De Haro St @ Southern Heights

Feb 3rd meeting followup
Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi (right) gave a lively, informative and well-received talk about his office's projects and priorities, and then engaged in audience Q&A.

Larry Bush, Friend of Ethics, columnist & editor of CitiReport,  then joined us to talk about the campaign finance and other ethics reforms called for in his Feb 2 op-ed in the Chronicle.

Executive Committee Members Bob Boileau and Loretta Lynch, respectively, presented updates on the Eden Foods boycott and reaching voters in large multi-unit buildings with the PHDC hand-delivered slate card. Supervisor Malia Cohen submitted her goals and priorities for the next term via a summary document distributed at the meeting.

Club members voted to send letters to Supervisor Cohen about her land use priorities, to the Ethics Commission about taking up (at their Feb. 23 meeting) the campaign finance reform concerns raised by Larry Bush, and to other Democratic clubs inviting them to join PHDC's efforts in the Eden Foods boycott.

The Club elected the following officers for 2015:

   President: Joni Eisen
   1st VP Membership: Monisha Mustapha

2nd VP Political Action: Loretta Lynch

   Secretary: J.R. Eppler
   Treasurer: Carlin Holden
   Tech Officer: John O'Neill
Officers-At-Large: Bob Boileau, Kate Gaidos Eppler, Eliana López

Our heartfelt appreciation to outgoing Treasurer Hilary Cohen for her years of cheerfully performing the duties of that essential office - until her move to a neighborhood to the north forced her to resign. Thanks Hilary!
