Jan 6th meeting: reforming Prop 13, reining in Airbnb
PHDC starts off 2015 with thought-provoking topics. Your participation is most welcome!

☞ Since the initiative passed in 1978, Prop 13's business-property loopholes have decimated California's public education system. PHDC has hosted two meetings on Propostion 13 reform: in 2008 the Prop 13 Reform Task Force, and in 2009 then-Assessor/Recorder - now Assemblyman - Phil Ting, presented on split-roll reform. Now, Evolve - California has taken over the campaign to ensure that commercial property pays its fair share. They have a clear plan, and Evolve organizer Emil Margolis will tell you about it.
ShareBetterSF

Following the success of the Share Better coalition in New York City, affordable housing advocates and community organizations will continue to expose the impact of Airbnb and other illegal hotels, to hold them accountable in San Francisco as well. The campaign will include organizing, media, public education, ballot measures & legislative action to counter massive Airbnb spending. Dale Carlson of the Share Better SF coalition will talk about how.

There will also be a bit of club business. Members of the Executive Committee will share with you: an update on the Eden Foods boycott; a proposal for how to improve outreach to voters during an election cycle; a brief "job description" from each officer, as we open nominations for 2015 officers.

The ongoing fight to save CCSF from the ACCJC

Two new official complaints  have been filed against the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, containing compelling new evidence of bias and violations of federal requirements, beyond what came out at the recent trial of SF Attorney vs. the ACCJC. Closing arguments were heard Dec. 9th; a tentative ruling is expected in January.

When he spoke at PHDC's October meeting, AFT 2121 president Tim Killikelly requested that PHDC endorse the CCSF Bill of Rights. A subsequent online vote resulted in the club officially endorsing the Bill of Rights.
Assembly district elections for delegates to the California Democratic Party
Registered Democrats in each of California's 80 Assembly districts will be electing 7 women and 7 men as delegates to the California Democratic Party Convention.  In our district, AD 17, this election will take place on Saturday, January 10 at the African American Art & Culture Complex, beginning at 10am. Click here to find out more about the process and to see the full list of candidates. The election is important because these delegates help to set Democratic Party policy on such issues as Prop 13 reform and the banning of fracking. Any registered Democrat may vote for his or her own district delegates.
Nice party!
good time was had by all December 13th at Triple Voodoo Brewery, as PHDC again joined the Potrero Boosters to co-sponsor the annual neighborhood Holiday Party. To spread the joy, members and guests donated 88 pounds of comestibles to the Food Bank. Thanks everyone!
