PHDC NEWSLETTER
ISSUE #61  JANUARY, 2014
Dear , PHDC logo

Since PHDC was an early endorser of the No Wall on the Waterfront campaign against the height exemptions for the 8 Washington project, I think it appropriate to publicize the petition drive now underway for an initiative that would require voter approval for waterfront development height increases. Read below how you can help.

In other news about past topics addressed and endorsed by PHDC, we have been invited to submit a resolution in support of a revenue-neutral carbon tax, also known as carbon fee and dividend, at the February meeting of the SF Democratic Central Committee. It is hoped that the resolution can then be taken up at the state level.

In this time of extreme drought, much of our next meeting - Tuesday, Feb. 4 - will be about water.

Joni Eisen, President
Signature-gathering underway: February 3rd offical deadline
You can help get the Waterfront Height Limit Right to Vote Act on the June ballot. Read it here. To sign the petition, or get petitions yourself in the Potrero Hill area, email Tony and he will arrange it with you. The petition must be signed in the presence of the signature-gatherer.

You can also pick up petitions to circulate at campaign headquarters, 15 Columbus, 10-6 M-F, 12-4 weekends. 17,000 signatures must be submitted by February 3rd. Here in the neighborhood, Tony would like them back by Jan. 29th so they have time to verify signatures at the campaign office. There's no time to waste.
Next meeting, Tues Feb 4th at 7pm: WATER IN A TIME OF DROUGHT
A presentation and Q&A about upcoming water rate hikes by the SF Public Utilities Commission will be followed by a conversation about the drought, its implications and, yes, opportunities, with Jennifer Clary of Clean Water Action and another representative from the SF PUC. For updates on possible changes or additions to the program, please check the PHDC web site or  Facebook page.

Club business will include a vote on amending the Bylaws, and additional nominations of officers. The following nominations have already been made and accepted:

After a conversation with representatives from UNITE HERE Local 2, the union for 750 concession workers employed by Centerplate at AT&T Park, PHDC passed a resolution in support of the concession workers. Workers who shared their stories were Bobby McCall and Patricia Ramirez. They were joined by union organizer Julia Wong.
