October 2013

The government shutdown is "over" - till next time. The chance to stop this lunacy from happening again is coming in 2014. Defeat the ones who brought it on: Take back the House.

At the Festival this Saturday, we'll have info handouts and posters from the NO on B, No on C campaign. Mail in your absentee ballot! Or vote early at City Hall. Don't be fooled by developers trying to buy special treatment to enable their greed. It's part of a very ominous trend.

Joni Eisen, President

Potrero Hill Democratic Club

COME TO THE FESTIVAL
This Saturday, October 19, 11am to 4pm

PHDC is proud to be a sponsor again of the annual POTRERO HILL FESTIVAL, a benefit for Potrero Hill Neighborhood House featuring local food vendors and chefs, artists, musicians, historians, homegrown entertainment and much more. The day starts with a New Orleans-style jazz-accompanied brunch at the Nabe, prepared by Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts students. $12 adults/$5 kids, 9am to noon. The festival itself, 11am to 4pm on 20th St between Missouri & Arkansas, is free.

At PHDC's table (space #74, across from Good Life Grocery) will be: voter registration forms (last chance to register for the Nov 5th election); NO on B & C campaign literature & posters; an opportunity to join PHDC for the 2014 calendar year; the popular Potrero Hill 94107 t-shirts, plus the new Dogpatch 94107 design.

NEXT PHDC MEETING: NOV.5th
(ELECTION NIGHT)
Supervisor Cohen, CCSF Trustee Mandelman to appear

Since our regular meeting place - the theater at the Neighborhood House - will be a polling place on election night, it's back to the Dogpatch Saloon, site of our recent auction, for PHDC's next meeting. To start, Rafael Mandelman will present his recently proposed Resolution in Support of City College (the club signed on in support of the SaveCCSF coalition back in March - but a lot has happened since then). Supervisor Malia Cohen will be there to speak and answer questions; check the PHDC web site or Facebook page for possible additions to the program.

WHEN: Tuesday, November 5th at 7pm
WHERE: Dogpatch Saloon, 2496 Third St @ 22nd St

PHDC's 5th Annual Party & "Shop Local"
Silent Auction: fun and successful!
September 28 at Dogpatch Saloon Auction trio
An evening of live jazz (l. to r., Mark Rosengarden drums, Ray Scott guitar, Chuck Bennett bass), food & drink - and record-breaking bidding - resulted in a solid financial footing for PHDC to start the challenging 2014 election year. Thanks to all who attended the party, and everyone who helped out beforehand (the list of our generous donors is in the column at left)!

October 1st meeting followup
Leaders of organized labor discussed its relevance

It was back to politics the Tuesday after the Auction: Mike Casey, President of the San Francisco Labor Council, and Michael Theriault, Secretary-Treasurer of the San Francisco Building and Construction Trades Council, were frequently in solidarity, but not always in agreement on every issue. As always, there was ample time for audience interaction -  which continued after the meeting was adjourned. We also had a recap of the Auction.
