July 2013
Greetings!

PHDC's last "meeting" took place in Dolores Park on a sizzling Fourth of July: campaigning for the CA DISCLOSE Act, registering voters, and watching the SF Mime Troupe's premier performance. We're back at our regular venue, the inimitable Neighborhood House, on August 6th.

Joni Eisen, President

Potrero Hill Democratic Club

Sunday Streets returns to the Mission
- and so do we! We'll have a table there to register voters.

"As one of the largest and most active parties in the state, ... San Francisco Democrats [must] continue to build up our registration and volunteer base for the battles we face in 2014," wrote SF Democratic Party Executive Director Ally Medina in a recent email. She's right! So please reply to this email, and join us for the next Sunday Streets: car-free fun, with politics.

WHEN: This Sunday, July 28, anytime between noon and 3pm  WHERE: Valencia St, probably near 21st St, exact location TBD

Next meeting TUESDAY, AUGUST 6th
Sun + City Hall More Sunlight at City Hall

City Attorney Dennis Herrera will be a featured speaker, along with Larry Bush, editor of CitiReport.com and a member of Friends of Ethics. With Board of Supervisors President David Chiu (invited), Herrera has introduced a package of local ethics reform legislation, "to tighten rules and enhance transparency for City Hall lobbyists, permit expediters and influential developers... [and] to bring greater oversight and fiscal accountability to city contracting, procurement and grant-making practices." (Herrera speaking on KQED in April)

Check our web site  or Facebook page for possible additional speaker(s) and other updates to the program.

WHEN: Tuesday, August 6th at 7pm
WHERE: Potrero Hill Neighborhood House, 953 De Haro St

PHDC's 5th Annual
Party & "Shop Local" Silent Auction
The new Dogpatch Saloon is OPEN...

...and we'd love to return to the (now beautifully-renovated) scene of last year's super-fun celebration. Stay tuned for updates on venue and date.

Update: Save CCSF
Accrediting Commission (ACCJC)'s draconian decision: revoke City College's accreditation

On July 3rd, the private Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges announced plans to terminate CCSF's accreditation in July 2014. Here's what you can do:

Sign the petition to the Department of Education to save CCSF by revoking its recognition of the ACCJC and replacing it with a transparent and publicly-accountable accreditation body.

Join the coalition. The next meeting of the Save CCSF Coalition is Wednesday, August 7 from 6 to 8pm at Southeast Campus, 1800 Oakdale Ave.
