Greetings!

The rally in Richmond is the place to be this Saturday. Unless you're building affordable housing in Daly City or performing some other service for the greater good. I hope to see you out there somewhere!

NATIONALNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION:
MONEY OUT, VOTERS IN
This Saturday, Jan 19th, rally at the Chevron refinery in Richmond Rally poster

Rally 1pm, Chevron Gate 14 (corner of Castro Street and Chevron Way). For those who would like to march to the rally (2.5 miles), step off the Richmond BART by noon.

The action commemorates the 3rd anniversary of the Citizens United decision. Chevron with its big money pollutes our democracy and the environment. Brass Liberation Orchestra, speeches by Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, activists and local leaders. Bring banners, signs, props-like cleaning supplies and gas masks, songs and your high energy!

Co-sponsoring orgs include Common Cause, Public Citizen, MoveOn, CREDO, Move to Amend, Global Exchange, and others. More information (and rsvp) on the facebook page.

NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE 
Inauguration logo Also this Saturday, Jan 19th - but closer to home 

President Obama, Vice President Biden, their families and members of the President's Cabinet will participate in service projects Saturday in DC. You can join the effort in and around San Francisco:

Habitat for Humanity is building a 36 condominium development at 7555 Mission St in Daly City, their most ambitious project ever. Tasks: drywall installation, roofing, siding, interior paint, hardware installation. On-site training. Along with several people at PHDC's last meeting, a total of 55 people have signed up. They have expanded the limit from 40 to 65; more info and signup can be found here. Search for another local event here.

 

INAUGURATION + MLK JR DAY
Breakfast and Celebration
MLK Jr Monday, Jan 21st, 8:00-9:30am

The public swearing-in of Barack Obama will be shown as part of the traditional Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast and Celebration,  sponsored by the SF Democratic Party and SF Labor Council. JANUARY MEETING FOLLOWUP
This whole newsletter: basically a followup to the January 8th meeting  

Every activist who spoke at the meeting steered participants to action: Helen Grieco & William Sink of Common Cause to the rally in Richmond; Kierith Jones of the Presidential Inauguration Committee to the Habitat for Humanity project; Joni Eisen of CA Clean Money Campaign to signing on in support and volunteering to help pass SB 52, the new CA DISCLOSE Act.

Also at the meeting: joining or re-joining PHDC for 2013. You too can become a member of our Club, and support our work. You can do so online now if you wish. Thanks. Lastly, our January meeting included the start of 2013 officer nominations (see below).
LOOKING AHEAD
Trust Women: Celebration of Women, Life & Liberty 

 

Saturday, January 26,10am to noon. A festive public celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade at Justin Herman Plaza with scads of activities. Non-women welcome. More info here.
