News from United Methodist Community Ministries

A Story Yet to Be Told
One of the features of the Community Ministries Festival this year was the "Story Yet to be Told" in which twenty one participants received $10.00 to create a "story yet to be told" in a new mission project or outreach.
Below the Rev. Beth Weisbrod shares the story of one of the recipients of the $10.00 gift.
We each have a story yet to be told! That was the message to the 21 $10.00 winners at the Community Ministry Festival on Sept 18! They were each given a surprise: $10.00 in an envelope entitled Story Yet to be Told. Each one is to take the next month to use the money to reach out to their community and then share the story of what happened- on Thanksgiving Sunday! One of the recipients told me that when she shared about her $10.00 in church on Sunday, three people each gave $10.00 matching gifts, so they now have $40.00! They are deciding together as a church on an exciting new outreach ministry using that $40.00! See how it grows!
Judy Sharpe- Kosmatka from Harlem Road UMC shared this, " Here's what I did with the $10.00 I received at the Community Ministries Festival:
I ran into one of the kids we used to minister to at Westerville Estates Mobile Home Park yesterday. He told me he hadn't eaten since lunch the day before, so I offered to take him to eat. Then, I also had to stop by the home of one of the women who are making necklaces (Kim) and I invited her to lunch, too. SO....I got to ask them questions about what our group of churches could do to help at the Estates. I told them that we were thinking about young adults....folks just graduated from high school....and we had a pretty good discussion. I took notes and typed it up when I got home. I'm going to give the guidance counselor at the high school a call soon to talk with her about needs.
Jovan, Kim and I talked about what young adults need to know to be good adults. Things like....managing money, schooling, being responsible people, getting jobs, staying healthy, dealing with sex, being good parents, etc. I'm not sure where this will all lead, but I wanted to let you know what I've been doing."
Please pray for all the $10.00 recipients that they will find creative ways to use the money to find new outreach avenues at their church. Thanks Judy for the creative and courage steps you are taking in Delaware County!
