Recognize Achievement with the NVFC's 2013 Awards: Deadline is February 1
 
Celebrate the achievements of a volunteer firefighter, fire prevention officer, junior firefighter, or junior firefighter program by submitting your nominations for the NVFC's 2013 awards. Recipients of the awards will receive a monetary prize for them and their department, trip to the Washington, DC, area to attend an awards banquet, personalized plaque, and a place in NVFC history. Nominations must be received by February 1.

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has received notice of the following firefighter fatalities:

Time of Incident: Pending
Date of Death: 01/22/13

Fire Department: Owego Fire Department
Address: 87 North Avenue, Owego, NY 13827
Fire Department Chief: Edward Franz

Incident Description: The Owego Fire Department Company #3 responded to a mutual aid call. While performing interior attack of the structure, Captain Porcari and another firefighter fell through the floor of the structure. Both firefighters were transported to separate facilities. Captain Porcari succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival to the hospital. The other firefighter received burns and remains in critical condition.

Incident Location: Newark Valley, NY

Funeral Arrangements: Pending
