REMINDER: Workshops and Webinars Being Held Now on Applying for FY 2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG)

  • Go to an AFG Workshop. Attend a FY 2012 AFG workshop to learn first-hand about changes to the AFG Program since FY 2011 and tips for completing the online application when the application period opens. Check the AFG Workshop Schedule on the AFG Website to find one in your area.
  • Projected Application Period. It is projected that the FY 2012 AFG application period will be held in June, but official dates are not yet available pending program reviews. Regularly check the AFG Program Website (www.fema.gov/firegrants) and future AFG Program Newsletter e-mails for announcements.

What's Next for FY 2011 Fire Prevention and Safety Applicants?

In the next few months, all FP&S applications received will undergo technical and peer review evaluations and program reviews. All applicants will be notified of the decision made on their application regardless of whether they will receive an award. Here are some things to remember while you are waiting to hear the decision on your grant application:

  • Previous AFG, FP&S or SAFER Grantees:  Do you have any outstanding grant reports?  If possible, catch up on meeting your reporting requirements before award announcements begin so that there are no unnecessary delays should you be awarded a grant.
  • Checking Application Status.  You can periodically check the status of your application in two ways:
1) The official primary point of contact (POC) on the application logs in to the e-Grant Application portal, the same one that was used to submit the application. Once logged in, click on the Mail Center link in the upper right-hand section of the screen. Three folders are listed in the menu bar: New Messages, Old Messages, and Sent Messages. Click the New Messages folder. If a decision has been made on the application, a copy of the e-mail notification sent from firegrants@fema.dhs.gov will appear. If no new message appears, then no decision has been made yet on the grant request.

2) The primary POC for the application checks the e-mail account on record in the application for a new message from firegrants@dhs.gov. This person will receive a copy of the e-mail notification that is sent to the application's Mail Center in the e-Grant Application portal. For confidentiality reasons, application decisions will not be released to anyone other the primary POC listed on the application.

Note: FEMA Grants Management Specialists (GMS) will contact only those applicants from whom clarifying information is needed.  Preliminary questionnaires are no longer sent to applicants that are being considered for award.
