Filmmaking Partnership in the News |
On June 3rd Voice of America ran a feature on The Arc's Day Program participants who are involved in The Creative Edge Digital Media partnership. Folks attend a filmmaking class twice a week and use iPads to capture images and create movies. They are also learning how to use sound effects and create storylines. This experience is a part of The Arc's Transformation Project. Jessica Neely, Director of Day and Family Services says, "The goal [of The Transformation Project] is to move the whole model of an adult day center out from the 4-walls of the center and into the community, truly integrated into the larger community. The Arc Bids Farewell to Betsey Petit |
So often it's the quiet and tireless colleagues who provide a solid foundation for large organizations like The Arc. Throughout her 21 years, Betsey Petit has been one such colleague. She began her tenure at The Arc in the nursing department. For the past five years, Betsey has served as Director of Quality Advancement. Yet her dedication goes far beyond her time spent in the office. Betsey began her relationship with The Arc when her daughter, Sarah, started receiving services. Ten years ago, after Sarah died, Betsey and her husband Pat partnered with The Arc to begin a recreation scholarship fund in Sarah's memory. Through the Sarah Petit Fund, Betsey and Pat have rallied friends from all over the country to help people here in Prince George's County "go places, make friends, and have fun."
When asked about the most meaningful aspects of her time at The Arc, Betsey responded, "The people I worked with, my coworkers and the people and families The Arc supports, taught and gave me so much. The Arc has been extraordinarily good to me and to my family, especially to my daughter. The Arc celebrated my retirement on Sarah's birthday. It was Sarah who really brought me into The Arc family, so it was entirely fitting to say goodbye to The Arc on her birthday. I want to thank everyone--remembering also those who are no longer with us--for all the kindness, friendship, love, and work we've shared for so many years. You'll always be in my heart."
Betsey's warmth and dedication will be missed by everyone at The Arc. We wish her and Pat all the best as they move to their new home in Ohio. |
Office Skills Training Program Prepares Excellent Workers |

Working as a clerk in their Human Resources Department, Jessica will put her filing, sorting, and reception skills to good use. After attending her orientation at Parks and Planning Jessica said, "I love it already. My supervisor is great. I can't wait to get started." Jessica said she feels well prepared for her new job. Through the OSTP, Jessica held a paid internship at The Kennedy Center this past spring, a position which provided office experience and inspired confidence.
