GOLD STAR

Cooper Elementary Magnet School for Technology in Hampton, Virginia was the setting as the Virginia Peninsula Rotary Club presented the school with funds, over $5,000, to support the Mayors Book Club. Supporting one of Rotary International's fundamental focus areas - Basic Education and Child Literacy - the club's contribution will continue the strong community partnership and aid in developing an early appreciation of reading and reading skills. Literacy is critical to a child's readiness to continue in school successfully and carries over into his or her ability to meet the rigors of school and for future academic success. Funds for the project were generated by the Peninsula Club and its successful application for a District Simplified Grant.

Club members will sign up to read books to the children over the next several months.
