The Practice & Symbolism of Vedic Ritual

The Practice & Symbolism of Vedic Ritual will explore and reveal the ancient methods used by the Priests of the Vedic Age, a civilization 5000 years ago. The incantations from the Vedas in the form of mantra organized the very forces of nature and the intersecting fabric of Spirit. Participants will experience an actual Vedic ritual and learn about the important symbolic references and how they can weave their way into our daily life and yoga practice. While time has moved us from these early roots of yoga the power and methods are as applicable now as ever in the current age of kali Yug. The Vedic ritual supports the mind's spiritual illumination, and the mantric vibration uncovers the beauty of Spirit.

Santosh is a teacher, seeker, and student. He started the practices of yoga with the intention to explore the abstract realms of spiritual consciousness. A modern day Sadhu, his life is organized to exclusively share the vast teachings of yoga and continue to uncover the transformative energies of spiritual practice.  "I never planned where all of my work was going to lead, but it has guided me toward powerful subtle experience, and illuminated understanding. I remain in awe at the beauty and the Force."  Santosh has taught prospective yoga teachers in Yoga Teacher Training programs since 2005 and guides weekly classes in Denver. He teaches beginning through advanced workshops on asana, pranayama, meditation and Eastern spiritual philosophy.  His asana training has included numerous styles and many different teachers. The in-depth study of Ayurvedic medicine, Raja yoga, Tantric meditation, advanced pranayama and Eastern spiritual philosophy has produced an immense breadth of knowledge. The expanding summit of his work culminated in his Guru, Self realized yoga master Sri Baba Hari Dass, initiating him into the sacred teachings of the Pujari, or  Vedic Priest. This advanced work will endure for the life. He is a teacher that guides from direct experience whose origins reach into the strata of conscious perception. "I devote my life to share the Wonder and the Peace.  To polish the one magic stone in search of the perfect Breath, the state of the Breathless...."

Joanne Greetings Yoga Enthusiasts -

Fall is here and what a lovely fall we're having. The colors of the leaves are exceptional and serve as an inspirational farewell as we transition into winter.

And YTOC is in transition too as we get the new Board up and running. I'm excited to be taking the reins as President from Shari Turney. Shari leaves big shoes to fill. I can't thank her enough for all her hard work and commitment as she led YTOC for these last two years. She'll still be on the Board as Past President so we'll have the benefits of her wisdom and experience.

The new Board will have its inaugural meeting on Sunday, November 3rd. We are planning many exciting programs, projects and social events. More to come as the saying goes.

There's also a saying that no one accomplishes anything alone. Actually, that's a fact not just a saying. YTOC won't be nearly as useful and vibrant an organization if the Board doesn't get input from you, our members. Without your input, we'll be making decisions in a vacuum. Since one of our goals is to encourage member participation, we'd love to hear your ideas for making that happen.

So, please get involved! Following are some thoughts on how to do that:

  1. Save the Date: Friday, December 6th from 6 - 9pm is our holiday party. It's free to all YTOC members and one guest. Suzi Cameron, our energetic Program Chair, is co-coordinating the party and will post details shortly.
  2. Attend a Monthly Program: It's included for free in your annual dues. Programs are held at member studios and they are a terrific way to stay connected with the yoga community while expanding your knowledge.
  3. What are your special skills/passions? Volunteer for a committee or help out at an event and share those skills. We'll be posting a Volunteer Application soon on the website so you can let us know how you want to get involved.
  4. Join the Board: We've got two open positions. Okay, this is a bigger time commitment, I agree. But, it's a great way to be actively involved in the yoga community and help set the future direction of YTOC and yoga in Colorado. Contact me at president@ytoc.org or 303.818.418 so we can talk.
  5. Give us your feedback. You'll find a list of Board members at www.ytoc.org under Contact Us. We want to hear from you. It is a primary way we'll be able to create an organization that effectively serves you.

Thank you for your membership. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Please read the following message from one of our YTOC members, Rebecca Louzan

When rain and flooding begin in the early morning of September 12, 2013, many of our homes, roads, and bridges were washed away or damaged, and vital infrastructure to our small town was destroyed. Our businesses were shut down, our families were evacuated three days later and we were advised we may not return home for months.

For the past month and a half, I have been camped out of a borrowed camper, next to my unflooded, but utility-less house. I was lucky in this. I watched the night of the flood as my neighbors scrambled from their homes with their children and any belongings they could grab. We congregated together every morning in the park, waiting to hear what was to happen next. It was heartbreaking to watch my neighbors drive out of our town, not knowing when they would return or how badly their homes were damaged. For the most part, I have remained here, with 67 other people living in the normally 2000 person town. We camp, we eat at Salvation Army. We stay very close to one anther. I co-own one of the two yoga studios in our town. Each and every one of our businesses have been shut down. We were fortunate to have our studio building safe and able to open our doors to Quiet Refuge hours and to be a space for generous practitioners from all over our state to offer firefighters and townspeople free massage and bodywork during the trauma. Our town has had no electricity, water,  sewer or heat for weeks. Little by little, portions of the town are beginning to have utilities turned on again and I watch my community return to start picking up the pieces of their lives.

I have seen amazing acts of love among my neighbors, and have developed a type of love that I've never experienced before. This has opened my heart and has given me voice to speak the needs of my community. We need the help of our greater neighbors. We have a tremendous amount of rebuild to accomplish and we have just begun. We have neighbors who have lost the limited amount of affordable housing in our community and don't know if they will ever be able to return. We have businesses that have been client-less for more than a month and a half now and don't know if they will survive the winter. We have families with quite literally no home left at all. I call to my fellow yoga community to help my town. Many of us have been working tirelessly to set up methods to help, and ways to make that help create a lasting impact.
