Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra

"What is Restorative Yoga?"
Restorative Yoga creates a deep state of relaxation safely using props. Prepare to slow down to heal & nurture the body & mind. Nourish the body as we practice most of the poses on the floor while being mindful of our thoughts and emotions. Experience a kind of peaceful serenity that leaves you with less negative emotions, less tension, and with more compassion and grace. Restorative yoga uses yoga props to manipulate the autonomic nervous system into stimulating the parasympathetic nervous. The yoga props open and close the body to create ease. Ease arouses empowering emotions-love, compassion, joy, bliss-which allow the body to relax and heal. Restorative yoga has the ability to counter high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. Restorative yoga is the antidote to stress!

"What is Yoga Nidra?"
Yoga Nidra is a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating tantric practice that helps calm the mind. You are in a state of "conscious sleep". Yoga Nidra is practiced in a supported position resting on the floor or seated. Props help to support the body physically to allow deep relaxation to occur. You may choose to explore Yoga Nidra for many reasons: deep relaxation, elimination of stress, solving personal problems, resolving or neutralizing trauma, entering deep meditation or assistance in unraveling such questions as Who Am I? Yoga Nidra in essence is a practice of self inquiry derived from ancient yoga teachings.

Please bring your yoga props to the workshop. The hosting studio, will provide props as they are available. But, one can never have too many props while in a restorative yoga pose! Bring 2 blankets, 2 blocks, any bolsters you'd like to use and a eyebag.

Shari's Hearts

 PRESIDENT'S CORNER

 Greetings Dear Sweet Yogi's,

Thanks to all of you who reached out to me after last months newsletter. It has been a time a healing and going within for me. It has, and continues to be, a time of transition. A time for being truly grateful, for remembering, a time to let go and move on.  As we move towards the solstice, the ominous date of "12/12/21", let us do so with love and acceptance in our hearts. Let us do so with kindness and compassion towards ourselves and others. Let us do so with strength, courage and integrity both on and off the mat.

Your "all volunteer" Board of Directors has been working hard these past few months.  We had an amazing board meeting in October where we voted for our 2012 grant money recipients:

Angel Organic -  http://angelorganic.org/
Yoga for the People -  http://www.yogaforthepeople.org/

We will be presenting these organizations with checks in January, at our first annual volunteer recognition dinner. If you presented or hosted a YTOC event in 2012, look forward to more information about the volunteer recognition dinner coming your way soon. There are many other initiatives in the works, including and exciting new Quotes Book that we hope to roll out soon. Stay tuned for details!

We have again experiencing some major issues with the YTOC website. Our Website Manager has stepped down, and we are looking for a new volunteer Website Manager. A Website Committee is in place and is working to hire a developer that will give our site some much needed attention to detail. We have a developer lined up to work on fixing the fatal errors occurring with Teacher/Studio Directory entries and displays early next week. If you are interested in becoming more active in YTOC, and want to know more about the role of Website Manager, please contact me at:  president@ytoc.org

I look forward to seeing many of you at our December event. Karin and Kerry lead such a sweet and rejuvenating practice together. If you have not been to one of our past December events with them, I hope you will come this time. It is real treat to practice Yoga Nidra and Restorative Yoga with our amazing Colorado yoga community!

May December bring you much LOVE & LIGHT!

Namaste'

PS.
Our next YTOC Board Meeting is planned for January 12th. The Board meeting will follow our Kids Yoga event that is that day from 2 to 4PM in Boulder. If you are interested in attending, please let me know and I will make sure you get the meeting details.
