When did yoga start in the United States?

If you are curious how the evolution of yoga came about in the United States, this is the workshop for you. Erin Mathiason will take us on a fascinating journey of yoga from when it was introduced to people in this country, and how it has evolved since.

Erin Mathiason  Presenter:

Erin Mathiason is a life-long student of yoga both on and off the mat, approaching twenty years of yoga study and practice. In addition to receiving her certification in the Day-Star Method of Hatha Yoga (a classical Hatha Yoga style) in 1998, she completed the first level of Anusara Yoga teacher training. Erin is also a Certified Holistic Health Practitioner (CHHP) with hundreds of hours of energy work training and was a Certified Counseling Clinical Hypnotherapist in private practice. Additionally, Erin is a yoga historian, a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader, a Past President of Yoga Teachers of Colorado and the author of a yoga blog.

Greetings Dear Sweet Yogi's,

What a busy, busy month it's been!  We held our annual members meeting on September 9th right after an amazing Dosha Party, hosted by Devon Beninga at Ananda Yoga Therapy Studio.

At the meeting we welcomed four new and eager Members-At-Large to the YTOC board of directors; Karen Kirby, Cindy Stohlberg, Joanne Thompson and Shilo Luyck. Since that time our Secretary and Membership Manager both asked if any of the new Members-At-Large would be willing to step into their roles.

I am very happy to announce that Joanne Thompson will take over the Secretary role for Lisa Griffin-Siedel, and that Shilo Luyck is taking on the position of Membership Manager for Sandy Kline. Both Lisa and Sandy will remain active on the board as Members-At-Large.

In addition Sandy is still filling in for our Newsletter Editor, Shannon Fiedler, while she's home taking care of a new little one. Please join me in welcoming these new board members into their roles. Both Lisa and Sandy have done so much for the YTOC board and I'm sure will continue to do so, they just both needed to lighten their loads due to life circumstances.

There were a few By-Law changes made at our annual meeting as well. One was revision to YTOC's mission statement. If you're curious about the other changes, please let me know and I'll forward you a copy of our By-Laws. Our mission statement now reads:

The purpose of Yoga Teachers of Colorado is to provide a professional association for yoga teachers, yoga studios, and yoga enthusiasts to share knowledge and foster community

We rolled out new marketing materials this month too
We have new YTOC magnets, post cards and t-shirts.  We put magnets and post cards in Yoga on The Steps, Denver's inaugural event to support Living Beyond Breast Cancer.  I participated in that event and all I can say is WOW ... it was amazing.

YTOC also participated in Boulder Green Streets this year. We had a booth in this street fair on Pearl Street. It was loads of fun and we made some really great contacts there.

Two YTOC memberships were given away. Welcome membership winners Blake Storey and Shawn Lyons.

There are many projects in the works for YTOC too.  Some of those projects include;:
  • Studio Out Reach,
  • Volunteer Recognition Dinner and
  • Scholarship Fund

I will let you know more about these as they unfold. In the mean time if you have questions please just shoot me an email (president@ytoc.org).

Enjoy the cooler weather and the bounties of the fall harvest season!

Namaste'

NEW AFFILIATE MEMBER
Sequana Natural Oils Joins YTOC
Lisa Marder's interest in essential oils was first sparked when she was told her son had ADHD. As a yoga instructor and physical therapist, she knew there were better, more natural alternatives to standard medications and found essential oils to be the perfect all natural remedy. Although her son's symptoms turned out to only be a simple food allergy (apples, his favorite treat!), the knowledge she gained about essential oils would prove to be invaluable in the future.

Understanding the underlying issues of muscle and joint conditions and the benefits of essential oils, Lisa took the next 3 years to formulate and perfectSequanna Natural oil Sequana Muscle and Joint Oil
for herself, family and friends. Recognizing the benefits, she began sharing Sequana Oil with physicians, who in turn used it on themselves and recommended it to their patients.
Lisa continues to make this unique blend of organic essential oils in Elizabeth, CO.

YTOC welcomes Lisa Marder and Sequana Natural Oils to our organization.

"Let the rain kiss you
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night
And I love the rain."
