BOOST Buzz
Meet the newest BOOST Ambassador

Kathryn is currently in her junior year at High Tech High Chula Vista (HTHCV). While being a student at HTHCV, she previously worked with Bruin Café as a shift manager and completed a semester in music theory. As a shift manager, she has been able to provide school lunches to students looking for a variety of food at school. Every summer Kathryn works at a Sacramento Jazz Camp as a stagehand's assistant. During her free time, you can find Kathryn gardening, drawing on a sketchbook, baking cookies inside her kitchen, or singing at home.
Kathryn has made it her future goal, since seventh grade, to become an occupational therapist. She has chosen Kinesiology, a study of movement, as her future major and would like to minor in Studio Art. Kathryn would like to attend Dominguez Hills College to help her succeed in her future career.

Batter UP!
Creative Before- and Afterschool Programs for Success (CAPS)
San Bernardino, CA
Batter UP! In a huge showing of community pride, 2,500 participants in San Bernardino City Unified's afterschool program, CAPS, helped kick-off the season of the local farm team for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The 66ers, named after Route 66, partnered with the CAPS (Creative Before- and Afterschool Programs for Success) to provide discounted tickets (worth $15,000 in matching funds) and a baseball cap with the team logo for every kid in attendance. Kids learned the rules and the traditions of baseball and joined the mascot "Bernie" in cheers, dancing the Dougie, and singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game". Mike Gallo, Vice President of the Board of Education, who threw out the first pitch, summed up the afternoon, "The event went so smoothly, these kids will have a memory that will last a lifetime."

Evaluation of Teach for America in Texas Schools
This research aims to take a look into a program meant solely to provide a supply of high quality teachers to our most high-need schools and students. The main purpose of this research was to estimate the effect of TFA corps members and TFA alumni on Texas student mathematics and reading scores for the 2010-20111 school year in the state of Texas.

Family Foster Care Reimbursement Rates in the U.S.
Each state has a standard rate for foster care providers in family settings. But not all children in family foster homes receive this rate, and in some states few children do. To provide readers with a more accurate understanding of family foster care reimbursement rates and practices nationwide, Child Trends released Family Foster Care Reimbursement Rates in the U.S., which summarizes key findings from a national survey about states' family foster care rates and provider classifications. To read this research, please visit Child Trends here. At Bates Middle School in Annapolis, Maryland, arts integration has helped raise student achievement. Job-embedded professional development, differentiated arts instruction, and critical-thinking skills integrated into the curricula have been key to their success.
