I want to personally thank those of you who have so generously responded to the financial call to eliminate the operating deficit not just for this year, but hopefully, for the years to come. This, to me, is an indication of a new confidence in the parish as people feel able to invest themselves to the building-up of our future together. This investment is not only financial, but taps into all areas of our responsibility for good stewardship and to exercise what St Benedict called tender competence. An updated message from the Treasurer, Sarosh Fenn, follows this Epistle.

This week is the first week for a while when I have not felt a pressing issue to communicate about in my E-news Epistle. Summer must really be here. Yet, our world is full of pressing issues, but at the moment it seem that the desire in many of us given the endless commentary on events that we are subjected to in the media, is less is more. There is only so much we can take in.

I want to take an opportunity to direct your attention to the website stmartinsprov.org. This is a great place to get the most up-to-date information. It's a place where you can view the recent videos from the End of Year Story. These are so much better than having been there because in this case editing creates a much better experience than the live performance. Here you can revisit the monthly questions and chapter summaries guiding our reading of The Story. You can brush up on St Martin's history, the history you never knew, thanks to Larry Bradner's wonderful video series in the history section.

New Update from the Treasurer!

Thank you all for continuing to respond to our End of Year Story appeal for additional pledges to cover our projected operating budget deficit for 2016. Since last week we have heard from an additional 11 pledging units who have pledged an additional $4,685. We currently have received $35,904 in additional pledges, which represents almost 90% of our $40,000 goal. In terms of pledging units, we have heard from 51% or 73 out of 142 pledging units for 2016.

We are about $4,100 shy of our goal. As a reminder, our appeal was for each pledging unit to pledge an additional $285 or at least increase their 2016 pledge by 12%. We look forward to hearing from the remaining 69 pledging units and continuing to support OUR St. Martin's community.

What is Yes!?

Yes! was developed to help you create that life God is calling you to live.
Rather than egotistically creating your own life, Yes! uses appreciative inquiry and conversation to help you awaken to the life-giving purpose that is already within you.

Yes! is based on several assumptions:
  • We are made for a purpose
  • We have been fully equipped with gifts and talents to fulfill that purpose
  • We most closely manifest our purpose when we are at our best, being and doing those things that flow from the core of our being and bring deep satisfaction
Life and the abundant life that Jesus' promised comes from what we deeply and profoundly say yes to, for it is in what we say Yes! to that we manifest our God given purpose.

Cost:
$100 (includes cost of materials)
Limited scholarships available. To learn more, please contact Canon Betsy Fornal, Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island, at 401-274-4500, ext. 225 or email betsy@episcopalri.org.
