Almost every Lent (every very few years Easter arrives before March 25) the Feast of the Annunciation comes as a moment of celebration in the midst of a solemn season. The Annunciation brings us the story of the Archangel Gabriel coming to Mary (nine months before December 25) to reveal God's invitation to become a key participant in God's plan. While our focus of course goes to Mary and her courage and openness to God, the day is actually classified as a feast of our Lord - specifically, his Incarnation.
There really is more to this than a random coincidence of dates and seasons. The Magi's gift of myrrh, a spice used to prepare bodies for burial, reminded us in the midst of Jesus's birth that there was more to come in the story. Celebrating the beginning of Jesus coming in the flesh at the same time that we are preparing for his death and resurrection weaves those events together. This baby who has taken on our flesh, all of our humanity, will also take on our brokenness, our sin - even our death. Only by the One who is the eternal Word also being fully human can his death and resurrection bring us redemption and salvation.
Join us on Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 pm as we keep this feast day with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the chapel.

Discernment Team News
| |
The Discernment Team searching for a settled-Rector for our church is ready to interview two candidates here in Providence, one March 21-23, one Mar 28-30. We have already had extensive conversations, heard from references, held our own discussions. Now we are ready to meet face-to-face, interview, show off our church and Providence, respond to their questions, hear them preach and conduct liturgy at a somewhat distant location. Both candidates are male, have considerable church and life experience, exhibit fine gifts and skills for priesthood and church ministry. The Discernment Team appreciates your thoughts, support and prayers. We are honored to be trusted for this important move forward. You are a great church family to be partnered with.
