St. Martin's Church

Dear people of St. Martins:

The season of Lent is often described as a journey, a pilgrimage - and so it is. We walk with Jesus and his disciples as they make their way to Jerusalem and all that awaits: a triumphal entry with shouts of joy giving way to betrayal, trial, and crucifixion, and, finally, an empty tomb. We journey out into the desert of our own lives, confronting, if we are able, our sinfulness and need for redemption. We make a pilgrimage of anticipation and preparation, drawing closer and closer to the great events that stand at the very heart of our faith - a pilgrimage that bids us to "cleanse [our] hearts and prepare with joy for the Paschal feast" (BCP p. 379).

Pilgrimages and journeys are best taken with others. Beginning tomorrow, we will receive the great gift of walking the way of Lent with some of our brother and sister parishioners. Each day will bring an e-mail and Facebook posting of a reflection on a Scripture reading appointed for that day in the Daily Office. I invite you to join in this great pilgrimage and let your own prayer be deepened and refreshed as we walk together.
