Wanted: Coffee Hour Hosts!!
| |
It is a St. Martin's tradition to offer coffee and snacks after our 10am Sunday service.
Parishioners volunteer to host these weekly Coffee Hours. Hosts provide two gallons of juice, a half-gallon of whole milk and snacks to share. David Ely will be available to help you with set-up and clean-up.
We have quite a few openings for the spring.
Please consider signing up, today!
The sign-up sheet is on the flip chart in the Great Hall.
Attending Coffee Hour is a great way to greet visitors, catch up with old friends, and get to know new friends.
Questions? Contact Susan Esposito.

From the Interim Rector

Lent is upon us, and it calls us, as we all know, into a season of penitence, confession, and self-examination. We will have plenty of opportunities to do the spiritual work of Lent at St. Martin's through the Ash Wednesday services, our regular times of worship on Sundays and Wednesdays, the Wednesday evening Lenten Program, and the Quiet Day on March 22 with Sister Sarah of the Society of St. Margaret.
We will also have another, more lighthearted way to keep Lent, by participating in "Lent Madness", with which some of you will be familiar. Playing off of March Madness, the college basketball tournament, Lent Madness sets up a bracket of saints who compete against each other by way of people voting for their choice online. The bracket begins on March 6 with Basil the Great vs. Christina the Astonishing. Don't know who Christina the Astonishing is (neither do I)? That's part of the point. We get to learn about the holy people of our faith as well as face impossible choices - how do I pick between Alfred the Great and J.S. Bach? There will be a bracket set up in the Great Hall so we can track the progress of the madness. You can get your own bracket and vote each day by visiting lentmadness.org.
Past winners have been C.S. Lewis, Mary Magdalene and Frances Perkins. Who will win the Golden Halo this year?

TAP-IN SUCCESS!!
| | |
St. Martin's Youth Group was filmed by RI PBS filmmaker Jim Hummel last Sunday, for a documentary on TAP-IN, the East Bay food pantry in Barrington.
They delivered about 15 cases of food, met the Director Lynn Moran, organized and stocked the shelves and had a tour. Not only was it a service mission for the Youth, it was an educational experience as well.
We had 9 youths and 8 adults participate. We learned that TAP-IN has an ongoing need for: toothpaste, shampoo, coffee and toilet paper.
