Two thoughts for the price of one:
The day of prayer with a sister from the Society of St. Margaret that I noted recently is being changed from January 11. It will become part of our Lenten program here at St. Martin's, with a tentative date of March 22. Stay tuned for more details.

On Monday, January 6, we will observe the Feast of the Epiphany with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 7:00 pm in the chapel. Epiphany, one of the principal feasts of the Church (right up there with Christmas, Easter, Pentecost...), brings to a close the twelve days of Christmas with a burst of light and a wonderful proclamation. This child who has been born, so closely tied to the prophecies of God's presence and work with the nation of Israel, is in fact a gift for the entire world. Gentile astrologers, probably from Persia, have followed the star to Judea in order to pay homage to the newborn King. What began so small - Mary and Joseph gathered around the manger - has now expanded to illuminate the world. May that light illuminate and guide each of us, and St. Martin's as a community, as we enter into this new year.

Backpacks Project Update
| |
After the generous outpouring of resources from St. Martin's last year, we are again in partnership with Sodexo, food service provider for Providence Public Schools, in order to provide weekend food to some of our neighborhood's neediest students. This year, St. Martin's will be filling backpacks for three special needs students every week at Hope High School, allowing us to support these students and their families when they would otherwise go hungry each weekend. Our very own church school students will be assisting with packing the backpacks whenever church school is in session! Want to help support this unique community project? Please click here to find out how you can help! Thank you, St. Martin's, for helping feed hungry children! |
