EnLightened News

November 2012
Greetings!

Please know that you are receiving this periodic newsletter because you've signed up for Kim Sheridan's email list. We greatly appreciate your membership and you!

I hope you all found time to attend a concert in the park this past summer, take your dog to the lake, or do whatever it is you enjoy doing when it's too hot to think. Personally, I had a very eventful summer. My son, Orion, turned one and started walking! There's nothing like watching a little one (animal or human animal) grow and learn to show you what is important in life...and what is fleeting.

Let's all appreciate the time we've been given in this beautiful physical world, and know that what is next is profound beyond comprehension!

See "Our Relocation" to find out what a busy summer Kim and the businesses had. Please also take note of the GMO labeling article. There is still time to make phone calls or otherwise volunteer to help get GMO labeling passed in California - whether you are in state or out. California is just the first step in nationwide labeling that will allow us to know what's in our food!

Lastly, my thoughts are with all of you in the Northeast. I wish you all strength and the love and aid of your neighbors in these difficult times.

Love & Light,

Animal Communication

Angel Rat

by Ashley

I would like to mention that Kim Sheridan is not a professional animal communicator and does not do individual readings. The communications Kim receives are at random and not "on demand" like they need to be for private sessions. Since the publication of Animals and the Afterlife, there have been so many animals and so much going on in Kim's life that when she does receive communications, she has trouble differentiating who they are from.

That being said, Kim does know experts she can recommend. For a list of the animal communicators referenced in Animals and the Afterlife, please visit: Compassion Circle.

We thank you for understanding that Kim's calling is to get the message out that animals have souls and an afterlife alongside us. She is a very capable messenger that animals deserve our love, respect, and protection, and there are others who are messengers of specific communications. We thank them for the work they do and channels of communication they are able to open to give animals a voice and help those grieving a loss.

Kim wants to offer comfort and peace to everyone experiencing pain over the transition of a loved one. That is why she wrote Animals and the Afterlife! It never hurts to re-read portions if that might help.

Please allow me to apologize to Healthy Chick® and Healthy Hunk® customers. If you have recently placed an order, you know our situation. If you are planning to place an order, I'm afraid we are unable to fill orders until December.

Over the summer, Kim's speaking engagements generated far more interest in the products than we foresaw. Before we could properly restock, we embarked on an out-of-state move. Unfortunately, our new facility fell through, so our supplies and equipment are now in storage. We expect to be moved into a new building and be back on track by the first of 2013.

We are looking forward to getting restocked and situated so we can begin distributing amazing products and valuable information to Healthy Chicks and Healthy Hunks everywhere!

Thank you so much for your patience! We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Health Feature: The Green Mush™ Story
by Kim Sheridan, Naturopath, & Jameth Sheridan, DHM
Green Mush

Green Mush™ came into being as a way to get the highest quality, most comprehensive nutrition into a precious member of our family, our beloved rat June. We mixed various superfoods with a little purified water into a "mush" consistency, which was green due to the preponderance of green superfoods (thus, the name "Green Mush"). June absolutely loved it, and it was so nourishing for her! We continue to serve it to all our beloved rat-children. The formulation of Green Mush™ has turned into a quest, with many different versions and research going into the product we offer today. We have spared absolutely no expense in creating it, and it continues to evolve.

In our view, Green Mush™ is definitely the most important single nutritional product your companion animal can take. We include large amounts of CoQ10, which is a powerful antioxidant involved in energy production and longevity. It has been our experience that Green Mush™ has helped many animals with hind leg paralysis. Green Mush™ is a powder that can be mixed with water in a bowl and served as a mush. It can also be mixed with other foods such as fresh fruits, fresh fruit juices, fresh vegetable juices, or your beloved animal's normal foods (you may need to add water because Green Mush™ is a dry powder).

Carrot Stuffing
Carrot
2 c. carrot pulp (from juicer)
3 stalks celery
3 tomatoes (preferably vine-ripened organic)
1 small regular onion
2 scallions/green onions
1/2 c. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
3/4 tsp. oregano
Up to 3 Tbs. gluten-free tamari and/or any other desired seasoning
Optional: Whole bell peppers and/or tomatoes to stuff; or nori to roll the stuffing in; or dressing/sauce of choice to top it with

Finely chop/dice the celery, tomatoes, onion, and scallions/green onions. Then combine with the carrot pulp, lemon juice, and seasonings. Hand-mix until thoroughly mixed. Stuff into hollowed-out tomatoes or bell peppers, roll in nori, or serve as-is. This is also good simply topped with flax seed oil. Leftovers can be dehydrated into croutons (form into crouton shapes before dehydrating) and then eaten as snacks or added to other meals.

Kim's Note
Kim in Nature
I'm so sorry we've been out of touch for several months. Ashley put this wonderful newsletter together quite some time ago, and she has been patiently awaiting my approval -- and this article! So, I sincerely apologize for holding this up for so long! It's been an extremely hectic time, as we are in the middle of relocating out of state -- not only ourselves, but several businesses (including HealthForce, which is no small task!) and our animal sanctuary, which includes a pond full of rescued fishies (definitely not the easiest thing to move)! So, this will be short and sweet, as I have to dash off to pick up a U-Haul before they close for the day...

If you haven't already done so in advance, PLEASE VOTE! We live in a world in great upheaval, so now is not the time to give up and say we can't make a difference. We can! If an election is really close, every single vote makes a difference! And if there's a chance that there might be a miscount (whether accidental or intentional -- but I won't get too conspiratorial here!) -- then it's ESPECIALLY important to vote! Please, vote with your heart, vote with your conscience, and hold the intention for a better world! One item in particular I'd like to address is Proposition 37. Ashley has done a great job of bringing up the GMO issue in several of our newsletters, including this one. This is an EXTREMELY important issue. There are some very confusing and misleading ads out there. As they say, if you want to know someone's true intentions, follow the money... In other words, look at who is supporting and funding an ad. On that note, if you are located in California, PLEASE vote YES on 37! This holds more importance for our personal health, the health of our animal companions, the health of future generations (or lack thereof), and the health of our planet than perhaps anything else on the ballot. So, please -- VOTE -- mail-in; walk-in; whatever it takes! And if you were already duped into voting against 37 (by no fault of your own -- I know how very misleading political campaigns can be), then please send at least two other people out to vote FOR it to counterbalance that vote!  ;)  Okay, enough of the politics for now.

On a more somber note, my heart goes out to all those who have been affected by the recent superstorm. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. During this time of earth changes all over the planet, we are reminded of how truly precious life is. Please stay safe. And remember the importance of getting your preparedness plan in place NOW, if you haven't already. This includes having an evacuation plan as well as survival food and other supplies on hand... not only for ourselves and our human families, but also for our animal families. God bless, everyone!

Dakota
Dakota's Walk-In

by Gina Olivieri of West Islip, NY

Dakota, our Siberian Husky, was in our lives for 14 wonderful years. I could go on and on about what Dakota meant to us, and how he was more than just our pet. He TRULY was part of our family.  Please note that when this experience happened, it was the day after Dakota left us. I really didn't know or understand that animals have souls -- as a matter of fact, while sobbing, I just kept asking: "Where is he? Where did he go?"

The day after we lost Dakota, I was a complete mess and grieving terribly. I was in my office at the back of the house. I had just spoken to one of the wonderful assistants at our vet's office who, after I asked if Dakota had been picked up to be cremated yet, told me that he wasn't picked up. He was still there.  Knowing that, I had an urge to go see him one last time. The vet's assistant said I could come if I wanted to, but she advised against it.

I hung up the phone and called my cousin. She has lost a couple of dogs and totally related to how I was feeling. I told her I was thinking about going to see Dakota, because I "just needed to feel him and his fur one more time." She told me not to go, that he wouldn't feel the same.

I hung up with her, sobbing uncontrollably, and began to walk toward the front door of my house. It was open. Right then, there was a lady walking a Siberian Husky passed my house. Now, other than my Dakota, you NEVER saw Siberian Huskies in my neighborhood.  MANY dogs walk down our block, but NEVER a Siberian Husky! I ran out of my house toward the woman and dog, who stopped and came onto my lawn. Through my sobbing, I apologized if I scared her and quickly explained what happened the day before. The lady explained to me how, as they were walking, her dog started to pull her in the direction of my block and then turned down my street.

Her dog, Sasha, not only let me pet her and "feel her fur," she looked me straight in the eyes. She laid down on her back and let me pet her belly, and then got up and walked over to a certain plant on our property that Dakota would often visit. She then proceeded to walk over to the EXACT spot on my lawn that Dakota laid the day before, right before we carried him into the car for his last trip to vet. After that, Sasha proceeded, on her own, up my front steps. I let her into the house. She went over to the spot where Dakota slept every day and smelled around. After giving her some water, I attempted to give her one of Dakota's treats. The last couple months of Dakota's life, he stopped eating most of his treats, so I would buy all kinds to see if he would eat a different type. This one particular treat, he never liked.  Never ate it. As I attempted to give Sasha one of those treats, she did EXACTLY what Dakota would have done. She sniffed it, then turned her head away from it! Sasha's owner explained that this must be Dakota visiting me, telling me he was okay and that he would be at Rainbow Bridge waiting for me one day.

I can't begin to explain what this experience was like. It happened right after I was feeling like I needed to feel Dakota again, just one more time. I truly believe Dakota's soul was in Sasha and pulled her down my block. The way that dog looked into my eyes is something I can't explain. Her visiting the spots, on my lawn and in my house, that Dakota was on, just made me believe more. Then, when she did exactly what Dakota did with those particular treats, I knew it was him. I continued sobbing with sadness, but, in some way, I felt this amazing peace knowing that Dakota had just visited me.

After her owner told me where she lived (several blocks away), every day, I would go out of my way to take a different route to see if I saw Sasha again. After about a week, I did see her. The woman's husband was walking Sasha. I stopped, of course, and was crying again.  The funny thing is, this time, it wasn't Dakota...it was different. I can't fully explain it, but it was totally different. That makes me believe even more that it was Dakota that first day, who visited me when I needed to feel him again.

Since then, there have been other incidents where Dakota has visited us in different ways, but the one I just explained was the most powerful. Now, I absolutely believe that animals have souls and that Dakota is still with us in spirit.

Yes to GMO Labeling GMO Labeling
by Ashley

As some of you know, nearly one million signatures were recently gathered from concerned California citizens to allow Californians a voice in the labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in their food. As you -- or those people you know in California -- consider how to vote, please consider the following.

Recently, the findings of a long term scientific study were reported showing the damage GM crops have inflicted on living creatures -- seriously compromised kidneys, livers, reproductive health, tumor growth, and death, have been the result. That said, we DO NOT support scientific research on sentient beings and believe GM food has proven detrimental to our health, and the health of our environment, well beyond cruel animal testing.

No test is needed to understand that when genes of viruses and bacteria are forced into the DNA of our food, to trigger pesticide production and pesticide resistance, there will be severe health consequences. These bacteria and viruses are the "on switches" that turn genetically modified genes on in these plants, and they are not turned off when they are ingested by you or your animal companion! Pesticide producing corn, soybeans, and canola, continue producing pesticides in your stomach! Those crops that do not produced pesticides themselves, but are resistant, are drenched in pesticides during cultivation. This is contributing to the die off of honeybees and other beneficial insects required for agricultural sustainability. This pesticide dumping is also causing the growth of resistant weeds and probably contributing to the plague facing bats [those bats who eat bugs like mosquitoes that carry parasitic and other dangerous diseases]. Pesticides also cause severe nutrient depletion in our soil (thus food!) and runoff into our water supply.

As if that's not enough, genetic modification is introducing agents into the food supply that have never been in the food chain before. They cannot be taken back once introduced! Many of these GM plants do not produce seeds! Yes, we have seeds and crops taking indigenous plants, and cross pollinating with them, that do not produce more plants! That is an untenable situation that puts the world's food supply in jeopardy. Quite frankly, it is a crime against humanity.

You might have heard that data on the realities of GMO food is inconclusive, or that no harm to consumers has been proven. Well, Monsanto and Syngetha [two companies leading the way in genetic engineering and funding the campaign against Prop 37, to the tune of $44 million to date] have restricted independent research on GM crops by refusing to provide independent researchers seed. Unfortunately, patent laws in the US allow this.

Maybe you've heard that GM crops are going to help food shortages throughout the world by being drought resistant? Well, 91% of the soybeans and 85% of the corn grown in the US is genetically modified. That didn't stop 75% of the nation's soybeans and corn from being affected by this year's drought in the Midwest. Food supply problems around the world must be stopped by resource allocation, eliminating wasteful practices, adopting plant-based diets, and producing food with real nutritional value -- not carcinogenic properties and nutrient depletion from pesticides and GMOs!

Our food supply is in crisis because -- in the United States -- we have stood by while pesticide companies have taken control of it! Please, let's do what we can NOW, to stop this movement down a path that is irreversible! The United States needs to join the 50 plus other nations -- including China, Russia, India, Brazil, the EU, etc. -- who label GM food. When we demand to know what is in our food, food producers will listen and change what they provide us. That happened quickly in the EU once labeling was required. Hopefully, we can start a movement in California that spreads throughout the country. Let's begin taking back our health and food supply on November 6th!

I want to say a BIG "Thank You!" to
Healthforce Nutritionals and the other socially responsible companies that have donated money to the Yes on Prop 37 campaign. We cannot match the huge out of state monies pouring into this campaign from the pesticide companies and their agro-business accomplices, but common sense and cosmic justice are on our side!
