Summer Shabbat Speaker Series: During the summer our rabbis sit with the congregation on Shabbat morning, and are called up to the bima only if there is a special occasion that warrants a Rabbinic prayer (special birthday, anniversary, baby naming, trip to Israel, etc.). Lay-people fill in as service leaders and speakers.
Please come and support your friends!

Visiting and Comforting the Ill: How Temple Emunah Members Can Support Our Congregants And Our Loved Ones in Need on Sunday, September 7, 2:00-4:00 PM, a workshop presented by Temple Emunah's Hineni Committee. How can we offer comfort in life's painful moments? Many of us feel that the ability to support others who are ill, recovering from surgery, or are home- or nursing home-bound, should come naturally. The reality, however, is that it can feel challenging. "What can we say, when we don't know what to say?"

Software Theme Night at Minyan: Today, software runs (and sometimes ruins) a good part of our lives. If you are involved with software development at any level, or want to commiserate with others over some unfortunate cyber-experience, come on Monday, September 8 at 7:30 PM. We'll chat about how we came to critically depend on something that seems so undependable, and maybe even come up with suggestions on how to improve things. The evening will be hosted by Ben Brosgol and Elliot Gerberg.

CPR Training at Temple Emunah: Wednesday, September 10, 1:00-5:00 PM (RSVP by 9/3/14). (Our Sunday class is now FULL.) The course lasts 4 hours and you must attend the entire class to become certifiedThe cost of the class is $50/person ($38 for additional members of the same household). We must have FULL payment in advance. Checks should be written out to: Emergency Response Training. To register, please email Jodie Parmer with your name(s) and mail payment to Jodie's attention at the Temple office.

Prayers Theme Night at Minyan: Which prayer(s) do you particularly like? Why? Which prayer(s) do you NOT like? Why not? Which prayer practices do you like or dislike? E.g. kissing the Torah; kissing the tzitzit; standing or sitting; covering eyes for the shema. Do you understand the content of the prayers (Hebrew or English)? Is this important to you? Why do you participate in prayer? Or not? These and many more questions will be discussed on Thursday, September 18 at 7:30 PM. Discussion will be moderated by Larry Marin.

Guess Who's Coming for Shabbat! Would you like to meet other new or veteran members, families with kids the same age, or members in a different age group? Have you met a family at Kiddush or the Religious School that you would like to know better? Do you love hosting Shabbat dinner or eating with others on Friday night? This program encourages congregants to invite other members to Shabbat dinner in their own home in order to build meaningful memories and strengthen our Temple Emunah community. Interested in signing up to be a host or a guest? Email [email protected]

Experience Hebrew Play at Temple Emunah! This exciting and interactive program meets for 9 weeks in the fall on Monday mornings, 10:00-10:45 AM, exposing families to the joys of learning Hebrew through music, dance, crafts, and books, as well as Israeli culture. No prior experience with Hebrew necessary! This program is geared towards kids ages 6 months through 3 years old, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $150 for all 9 classes! Dates: Every Monday from October 20 through December 15, 2014. Email Jodie Parmer to register or call 781-861-0300 and fill out this registration form.

Temple Emunah Notes and Announcements

Temple Emunah 2014 Family of the Year Survey: It is time to nominate our 2014 Temple Emunah Family of the Year! Please take this brief survey by September 3 so that we can honor a family on Simhat Torah evening on October 16. This award is given to a family that embodies the Emunah spirit by: setting an example for others, giving time and resources, performing miztvot, adding to the richness of our religious and community life. Your feedback is very valuable to us! For questions, contact Alan and Leslie Sherman, 2014 Family of the Year co-chairs.

The Lexington Minutemenschen and the Israel Ride: This coming November, Rabbi Lerner will join five other Temple Emunah members on a 300 mile trek from Jerusalem to Eilat. We are raising funds for both the Arava Institute and Hazon.

We need your help and ask that you support this wonderful program by donating to our team, the Lexington Minutemenschen. Click HERE if you would like to make a donation. You can also support our team by purchasing an official Temple Emunah cycling jersey for $100 ($36 of which will go directly towards supporting the team). To order a jersey, email Mark DruyQuestions? Contact our Team Captain, Lester Blumberg.

The Hineni Committee is looking for new volunteers, as the need for assistance continues to grow!  The Hineni committee helps congregants in the following ways: cook meals (we especially need volunteers who observe Kashrut, but all are welcome), drive to medical appointments, drive to religious services, assist with grocery shopping. Please let Jane Aronson know if you are interested in helping out, and include your phone number(s) in addition to your email address. You can call Jane at: 781-863-8055.

The Lexington Interfaith Garden is now in it's 5th year of growing and distributing food via the Lexington Food Pantry. In each of the last 2 years we have brought about 1,600 lbs of food for those in need. Our work at this time of year is mostly planting, weeding, and harvesting. This is all done under the direction of our expert head gardener, so no gardening knowledge is needed, but you must be willing to get your hands dirty! Temple Emunah is assigned to work 2 Tuesdays per month, 4:30 - 6:00 PM, along with another faith community. Our upcoming work dates are: August 26 and September 9 & 16. The garden is located just across from The Lexington Green. If you would like more information or would like to participate, please contact Larry Marin at: 781-861-7855.

Shabbat Service Buddies: Would you like to be more comfortable participating in the Shabbat morning service? Do you often have questions about what is going on? Temple Emunah will match you with your own service buddy! For more information, contact Jill Wollins.

Support Temple Emunah's Second Harvest Program! Just 15 minutes away from Piper Rd is a very different world. Please join us as we participate in an important mitzvah when we bring our leftover food to the Middlesex Soup Kitchen on Moody St in Waltham! Each week volunteers deliver food on Sunday afternoon, which takes less than an hour. Kids can help load the food and this is a wonderful way to encourage them to participate in a mitzvah! If you are interested in signing up for a delivery, please email Bob Halperin

Be a Shabbat Morning Greeter! We are looking for people who are willing to act as a greeter on Shabbat mornings in the downstairs lobby. If you are interested in participating in this initiative, please click HERE and sign up on our Google doc!

Family Table needs your help! We need Brown Rice and Whole Wheat Crackers for Jewish Family and Children's Services deliveries each month. Please help us meet our commitment to collect and deliver 110 boxes of rice and 110 boxes of crackers each month to JF&CS. Questions? Contact Michelle or Mark Abramson at 781-861-7152 or Nancy Lefkowitz at 781-696-2085.

The Kitchen Committee always welcomes volunteers to help in the kitchen for Shabbat and Festival Kiddushim. To help, email Janet Goldberg or call her at 617-489-7175.
