AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

Please prepare 1 minute of an appropriate musical theatre song -- or a pop song from the 1950s or '60s -- that best showcases you, as well as the character's personality; bring a second selection as backup. If possible, avoid singing a song from the show; however, you are encouraged to familiarize yourself with the show's approach. From the creators: "Listen to Connie Francis, Doris Day, The Chordettes, & The McGuire Sisters for Act I styles; listen to Dusty Springfield, Lesley Gore, The Shangri-Las, & Betty Everett for Act II styles." Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. A CD with an accompaniment-only track is also acceptable, provided it is edited and cued correctly. No a cappella auditions. Auditioners may be required to learn a short dance/movement combination, so please come prepared to move; there may also be cold reading from the script.

All those auditioning are encouraged to provide a résumé of their onstage experience when registering for auditions. Please bring a list of all potential conflicts including travel, etc. Any conflicts with the posted schedule must be discussed with the Producer and agreed to by the Director before casting can be confirmed.
ALL ROLES OPEN. No appointment necessary. Open Call Auditions. There is NO PAY.

PLOT SUMMARY:

This smash off-Broadway hit takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing such classic '50s and '60s songs as "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Lipstick on Your Collar," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," "It's My Party," and over 20 other classic hits! You've never had this much fun at a prom and you will never forget The Marvelous Wonderettes -- a must-take musical trip down memory lane! "The fun never stops!" -Associated Press

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

BETTY JEAN (Female, Adult [to play 18 and 28])
Betty Jean is the self-anointed clown of the group, always vying for attention from her best friend Cindy Lou. (Alto with strong low range)

CINDY LOU (Female, Adult [to play 18 and 28])
Cindy Lou is the "bad girl" of the group. It seems that things always go her way, making Betty Jean crazy. (Mezzo Soprano with belt; sings the melody line on many songs)

MISSY (Female, Adult [to play 18 and 28])
Always the over-achiever of the group, Missy is the one to cover for mistakes and is always ready to jump in and save the day. She has been best friends with Suzy since elementary school. (Soprano with wide range and very high vocals; needs good belt/mix)

SUZY (Female, Adult [to play 18 and 28])
Gum-chewing Suzy is happy-go-lucky, a little giddy, and a little silly. She finds great pleasure in everything she does; the sillier it is, the more fun she finds it. Her best friend is Missy. (Mezzo Alto with a sweet, soulful sound and big belts)

At The Conejo Players, we present our workshops for a very low, non-refundable registration fee of $5 per workshop. Workshops vary in age ranges, so please check the requirements for each class prior to registration.

Children's Audition Workshop Series with Hannah Davey & Company
Two Saturdays: May 17th from 10am to 4pm & May 24th from 10am to 4pm

This wildly popular and long-running Conejo Players workshop will help all levels of youngsters hone their skills in song choice, vocal technique, dance, and cold reading to help them prepare for auditions. The first Saturday is a series of mini-workshops with plenty of practice. The second Saturday, students "audition" in front of local theatre experts who give constructive feedback on their performance. The audition may not be real, but the experience is!

NOTE: This series takes place over TWO Saturdays. When registering, please sign up for BOTH days to fully participate in the workshop.
+ This workshop is for children ages 8-13.
+ Please bring a lunch, snacks, and a drink on both Saturdays.

Music Theory Workshop Series with Lisa Yaldezian
Wednesdays from 5pm to 7pm: June 11th, 18th, and 25th

NOTE: This series takes place over THREE Wednesdays. Please register for ALL THREE days to fully participate.
+ There will be a $15 materials fee due at the first workshop.
