Greetings Friend,

All of us at United Way of Kenosha County hope that your 2013 is off to a wonderful beginning! The start of a new year is a time to both reflect on the past and consider the possibilities of the future.

This year United Way will be celebrating its 90th Anniversary in Kenosha County. The rich history in our community has touched the lives of tens of thousands of people, yet this is no time to rest on our laurels. United Way is committed to constantly moving forward to meet the evolving needs of Kenosha County, and we can't do it without you.

Join us this year in making a positive difference in our community by giving, advocating and volunteering for the causes you feel passionate about. LIVE UNITED!!!

Readers Are Leaders
Share the love of reading with local children

Each year as part of the national "Read Across America" event that celebrates the birthday of Dr. Seuss, United Way of Kenosha County organizes Readers Are Leaders to share the joy of reading with local elementary school students.

On March 5, 2013, more than 23 elementary schools in Kenosha County will welcome volunteers into their classrooms to read to students in first and second grades.

We need your help!
Because of the overwhelming response from local schools, we are seeking 200 volunteers to participate in this fun-filled event.

Youth As Resources (YAR)
YAR
United Way is proud to partner with UW - Extension in support of Kenosha County Youth As Resources. YAR is a grant-giving program which funds youth-designed, youth-led community service projects in Kenosha County. Youth, with guidance from adults, determine the project they believe will address a need in their community.

Youth groups may apply to YAR for small grants of up to $500 which may be used to purchase supplies for the project, but may not be used to pay for volunteer time. The YAR Board reads all applications and invites youth groups to present their proposals directly to the board. Grant deadlines for their next cycle are:
  • February 12, 2013
  • March 12, 2013
