Last year, we promoted the message of year round engagement - "Day 1 of 365 Days of Caring." This year, we are implementing two enhancements that will move us toward stronger community partnerships and y ear round engagement:
Partner up NOW! We are encouraging agencies a nd volunteer groups to team up early to identify an d plan projects...together. It's a true win/win - agencies get needed work done; volunteers are engaged in a project they helped shape. Shared ownership.
"Co-ed" orientations.The orientations provide great opportunities to review D of C goals, get tips on project planning, share reminders about working with partners and refresh on how to navigate the online processes. To encourage stronger and earlier partnerships, orientations will be held continuously (1-2 per week) starting May 23 through July 9. Anyone (agency/school project coordinators and/or company/volunteer team leaders) can attend any one of the orientations. Disaster Response and Recovery and Volunteers
One way to support our community when disaster strikes involves volunteering to staff the Volunteer Reception Center (VRC). In times of disaster, people want to help. In fact, people will travel from miles away to offer services - some with skills, some with just big hearts. Research and experience have shown that if a community is not set up to receive and coordinate these volunteers, they can become "a disaster within the disaster." The VRC is an effective model for managing the influx and assignment of spontaneous, unaffiliated volunteers.
