Meet Hay I'm a handsome guy, only 3 years young and already neutered. I'm very affectionate and friendly, and love attention. I enjoy being petted and would love to keep you company.
Come meet Hay at the shelter during visiting hours.

And the results are in
| Thank you to everyone who voted for the Kennel at Aspin Hill during the Partners in Preservation campaign last month.
We finished in 9th place out of 24 in the voting -- in the top 10 among some very famous national historic monuments -- and we are exceedingly proud of this accomplishment. We couldn't have done it without your votes, tweets and Instagram and Foursquare postings.
While the Kennel at Aspin Hill did not win a rehabilitation grant, we will receive $5,000 from American Express, and we will carry on with our work to raise funds to rehabilitate the property.

Curtain rises on MCHS adoptable pets
On Saturday, June 8, from 10-2, DC Actors for Animals is hosting the first-ever Beltway Barks show at the Friedheim Quad on American' University's campus in DC. MCHS is one of several local area rescues and shelters participating, with popular local actors introducing each pet on stage. The event is inspired by the annual Broadway Barks adoption event in New York City, founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore. Come join the fun! |
Coming soon to a mailbox near you
As the summer season approaches, MCHS will close one organizational chapter, only to start another. With our 2013 fiscal year ending next month and the FY14 budget term commencing on July 1, we hope that we can count you to make a generous end-of-the-fiscal year gift by June 30. Over the next day or so, you'll receive our latest Spring Appeal in the mail, which details our exciting new "Matchmaker" program. Through your generosity and that of other special friends, we are able to launch this project while maintaining our core mission of Adoption, Education, and Sheltering on behalf our voiceless companions. |

Teens help out with daily tasks
For the second school year in a row, Shane and Emily have spent time at the shelter helping with clerical and housekeeping duties. We want to take a moment to thank them and to point out that we have volunteer opportunities for teens (ages 15-17) as well as adults.

Kudos
... to our supporters in the community: PetValu Olney and PetCo Burtonsville for multiple donations of premium cat and dog food and kitty litter. ... to our volunteer of the month: Virgil Ocampo, a very dedicated dog handler volunteer, decided to use his birthday as an opportunity to receive donations for the animals at MCHS. Rather than accepting gifts for himself, he asked his friends and family to donate supplies, money, and time to their local animal welfare organizations. Because of Virgil's generosity, we've received many supplies for the animals and items for volunteers to use as well! Thank you, Virgil!
... to our foster of the month: Debbie Rowan and her son Peter have been great assets to the MCHS foster program, especially during "kitten season". They have cared for many litters of kittens -- whether orphaned or being nursed by their mother. The Rowans' dedication is welcomed during the spring and summer months, when kittens arrive litter after litter, and often on the same day. Thank you, Debbie and Peter!

Another happy tale
Greetings from two alumni, Trudy and Tillman! It's been over a year since we adopted Trudy, and we wanted to let you know how thankful we are for playing an important role in bringing our family together. Trudy was one of your very special cases. She suffered terrible neglect and abuse in her former life. When she was brought to the shelter, she was so horribly matted you couldn't find her eyes. Then it was discovered that one of them was so badly infected it had to be removed. She was afraid of people and needed a home where she could learn to trust and feel secure. We knew she'd be the perfect match for our house and Tillman, who had come through your doors a few years back as a stray. From day one, Trudy and Tillman have been best of buddies! Tillman has been a great help to Trudy in reassuring her when she's afraid, encouraging her to play and be silly the way normal Bichons behave. Although conquering her fears will continue to take time and patience, she has made wonderful progress in trusting and has blossomed into a happy, confident, loving sweetheart. Her favorite sport is chasing squirrels. She loves taking long walks in the early morning, when nobody else is around!. Her favorite seat is on top of a human. We simply can't imagine life without our precious little blessings. Thank you for helping to make our family complete! -- Mary M
