ALUMNI: YOUR CHANCE TO GET INVOLVED!
At the heart of McDonogh School is a founding principle to "give something more than we take," and this spirit of service lives on in our alumni. No matter where you live, you can give your time or talent. If you are interested in participating in any of the Alumni Association committees listed below, please contact Jen Little at
alumni@mcdonogh.org.
Community Service Committee - Take part in existing community service projects or create new ones to make positive changes at McDonogh, in our local community, and throughout the world.
McDonogh Fund Committee - Help increase alumni financial support of the school, both in dollars and in participation, and help McDonogh achieve the highest alumni participation among Baltimore-area independent schools.
Mentoring Committee - Foster meaningful and productive one-on-one relationships between alumni and students. Share your experiences, provide career or academic advice, or arrange for student internships. This committee supports McDonogh Connect.
Regional Chapters - Because more than half of McDonogh's alumni live outside the Baltimore area, we are establishing regional chapters in New York City, Atlanta, DC, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco to keep McDonogh's extended family connected and vibrant. Activities may include dinners, networking events, museum tours, community service projects, or happy hours.
Social Committee - Coordinate and support alumni events throughout the year with the goal of increasing alumni participation and improving social connections among alumni.
Young Alumni Committee - Help create opportunities to increase participation among graduates from the past 15 years.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
At the end of June, demolition crews arrived to raze Lamborn Hall. The former dining hall, which opened in 1960, served the school well for 54 years. In its lifetime, thousands of meals were served in the space, but more importantly, countless lasting memories were made. View photos of people, events, and meals in Lamborn Hall over the years.
Progress is being made on the Rosenberg Campus Green which will connect the Edward St. John Student Center, the Naylor Building, and Lyle Building, allowing student travel between buildings.
Memorial Court is undergoing renovations which will include the names of McDonogh alumni who lost their lives in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The upgrade also includes the installation of an illuminated flag court, new landscaping, and handicap accessible pathways. Save the date for Thursday, May 21, 2015, for the dedication of Memorial Court. All alumni are invited to attend.
You can view real-time video of construction on campus anytime by visiting

A NEW RECORD SET! THANK YOU ALUMNI!
Thank you, McDonogh alumni! We are happy to report that gifts to The McDonogh Fund reached $2,212,492 for the 2013-2014 school year, a record high, with alumni contributing nearly one-half of the total. Overall alumni participation grew to 25% with much of that growth coming from our young alumni who reached 32% participation. Young alumni gifts exceeded the goal of 600, thus meeting the giving challenge from Henry A. Rosenberg, Jr. '48, who gave $60,000 at the completion of this goal. Go Eagles! Sincere thanks to our team of talented and dedicated alumni volunteers who served as class agents. Your hard work paid off! McDonogh could not be the school that it is without your help and the generous support of all alumni. If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers for the 2014-2015 school year, please email Lindsay Young '05 at lyoung@mcdonogh.org. It's worth it! |
MCDONOGH CONNECT NEWS
Premier Mentoring, Internship, and Career Resource Program
We are excited to announce that the web portal for McDonogh Connect is now available on the Alumni page of the McDonogh website! You can click on the "Connect" button on the left to create an account, and once activated, you can choose to participate as a mentor or mentee.
With the database in place, we can connect young alumni with McDonogh graduates throughout the United States and abroad to find meaningful internships during college and provide career advice and job search assistance once they have earned their degrees. McDonogh Connect will also introduce our juniors and seniors to career explorations that will help them maximize the college experience. There are many ways for mentors to become involved, and with your help, we can build a strong and active database.
If you have any questions, please contact Anita Hilson, Director of McDonogh Connect, at ahilson@mcdonogh.org. Your participation is the key to the success of McDonogh Connect, and we thank you for the gift of your time. It is greatly appreciated. Now let's get connected!

MCDONOGH'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY
McDonogh's storied history
As part of McDonogh's sesquicentennial celebration in 2023, Middle School faculty member Jon Aaron '72 will be writing a history of the school. This book will differ from the previously published chronologies in that it will be a social history of McDonogh.
While the 150th anniversary is almost 10 years away, it's not too early to begin gathering the impressions and the memories that help tell the McDonogh story. Jon is seeking notes or letters penned by faculty, students, parents, alumni, coaches, friends, and others about anything relating to McDonogh School. Also of interest are journals and film (16 mm dating back to the 1920s, Standard 8 from the 1930s to early 1960s, Super 8 beginning in 1965, and contemporary camcorder tapes). Artifacts and memorabilia that tell the story of accomplishments or struggles in the academic, artistic, athletic, and extra-curricular lives of students through the years would be helpful, too. Please explore your basement, cellar, and attic; comb your shelves, drawers, and closets; you may be surprised at what long-forgotten treasures you'll uncover. Jon would love to hear about your discoveries and determine how they can benefit this project or McDonogh's archives. Please contact Jon at jaaron@mcdonogh.org or 443-690-7481.
