HUNDREDS BACK ON CAMPUS AT THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving Break was the perfect time for young alumni to visit campus. Graduates from the classes of 2009-2012 joined the senior class in Lamborn Hall for breakfast on Thanksgiving morning. Headmaster Charlie Britton flipped hundreds of pancakes, while students and graduates reminisced with each other and with faculty. That same morning, soccer alumnae squared off on the field, playing odd vs. even years. Under the direction of Bridget Collins '90, who coached and cheered as goalie for her team, the "evens" narrowly pulled out a victory. On Friday, November 23 approximately thirty lacrosse alumni played alongside current varsity team members on the newly dedicated W. Boulton Dixon Field. After the game, parents of current players hosted a lunch in Lamborn Hall. |
ORANGE & BLACK HOLIDAY LUNCHEON
A joyful spirit was in the air on December 6 when Baltimore-area alumni gathered at Christopher Daniel Restaurant for the Orange and Black Holiday Luncheon. Guests were treated to remarks by Headmaster Charlie Britton and memorable performances by McDonogh's student a capella groups, The Women of Note and The Gentleman Songsters.

CAMPAIGN AND CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
- Sixty percent of construction on The Naylor STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Building for Upper School, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013, and 25 percent of The St. John Student Center, which is scheduled to open in the winter of 2013, has been completed. This includes exterior brick work on The Naylor Building and upper level framing and lower level exterior brick work on The St. John Student Center.
- Machinery for the school's new power plant is being installed. The facility will be finished in April, and it will provide heat and power for the new buildings. Eventually, it will also deliver heat and power to Allan Building and several other structures on campus.
- The traffic signal at the intersection of Lamborn Road (formerly Woods Road) and McDonogh Road is now functional.
The new spaces will profoundly benefit both students and faculty, and we are grateful to the many donors who have already supported The McDonogh Forever Campaign. So far, we have raised just over $71 million of our $75 million goal. Support is still needed. We hope everyone in the community will choose to be involved - for our current students and for succeeding generations - as we continue our tradition of delivering the best education and opportunities possible. For details about The McDonogh Forever Campaign, contact Christine Krause, Director of Major Gifts, at 410-581-4735 or ckrause@mcdonogh.org.

MCDONOGH LOSES MUSIC LEGEND One of McDonogh's most beloved music teachers, Marshall "Marsh" Anders, passed away November 15, 2012. During his 47 years at McDonogh, Marsh directed every music group on campus, gave countless private lessons, and played the organ or piano for innumerable school events, as well as weddings and memorial services.
Head of Lower School Noreen Lidston eloquently stated, "Mr. Anders has meant the world to three generations of children. With complete joy and unending kindness, he has taught prefirsters how to play the kazoo, trained students to become concert pianists, and everything in between."
He will be missed.

Alumni living in Baltimore have been feeling the sheer intensity and purple power sweeping over the city. There is no questioning Baltimore's love for the Ravens as they head to the Super Bowl this weekend. Even Headmaster Charlie Britton, a die-hard Patriots fan, declared it "Purple Week," allowing all students to break dress code and don purple attire...or the colors of their favorite team.
What about our alumni friends in San Francisco? Who are they rooting for?
The results of an email poll revealed that you can take the alum out of Baltimore, but you can't take Baltimore out of our alumni. 63% of our San Francisco alumni will be cheering for the Ravens this Sunday! May the best Harbaugh win. |

MAKING McDONOGH CONNECTIONS
Alumni Giving Back Time and Talent
McDonogh's graduates have been making meaningful connections with current students, sharing their experiences and guidance, as part of a new Social Entrepreneurship course led by Upper School teacher Ned Courtemanche.
This past semester, Dan Shuman '95, CEO of The Asset Store and Redex, challenged students to identify their personal interests and strengths to aid in their own start-up processes. Mark Weingram '03, an officer in the Marines who recently returned from active tours in the Middle East and Haiti, ran a "Leadership and Teamwork" session. Taylor Robinette '12, a student at UNC, skyped with the class and challenged two groups to use $50 to raise as much as possible over the course of five days. The groups ultimately raised $517.23 of net profit for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
The gain? Setting our students up for leadership success. The alumni-student connections will continue throughout the year but have already proven to be invaluable lessons on real life.

THE MCDONOGH FUND: IT'S WORTH IT! Thank you, alumni, for your wonderful support of The McDonogh Fund. Through January 31, 2013, we have raised $1,478,618 in cash and pledges, and alumni have provided 51% of the total. Alumni participation is currently 13% and growing.
For the classes of 1993-2012, Henry A. Rosenberg, Jr. '48 is offering a "25 for 25" Young Alumni Giving Challenge. If our Young Alumni reach a total of 25% participation by June 30, 2013, Mr. Rosenberg will generously give $25,000 to The McDonogh Fund. Click here to make your gift today!
In the fifth of our video series, Bridget Collins '90, a McDonogh teacher, coach, advisor, and alumna shares how she is living proof that your gift today impacts students' lives forever.
