97th MCDONOGH/GILMAN FOOTBALL GAME
McDonogh spirit prevailed on Saturday, October 27, despite a 48-12 loss by the Eagles to the No. 1 Greyhounds.
Led by history teacher Dave Harley and Headmaster Charlie Britton, orange-and-black-clad fans marched over the bridge from Bryn Mawr School onto Gilman's field and cheered wildly throughout the game. Alumni and their families then gathered for post-game camaraderie at Ryan's Daughter in Belvedere Square.

37th ANNUAL MCDONOGH CLASSIC
On September 24, a glorious fall day, 108 alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends participated in the 37th Annual McDonogh Classic held at the Suburban Club in Baltimore. Golfers played a modified scramble, and then enjoyed happy hour, dinner, a silent auction, a live auction led by entertaining alumnus Brad Dudley '79, and the awards ceremony. Congratulations to the winning foursome: Jackie and Steve '76 Breeden, Doug Silber '76, and Leslie Zuga. Hilarie Boltansky was the lucky winner of the Masters raffle tickets and will enjoy two passes to the 2013 event in Augusta. Many thanks to all sponsors and players for supporting the Alumni Association. |
DOC AND BOB LAMBORN HONORED
This year's Opening of School Convocation Ceremony included a dedication of the Louis E. Lamborn Alumni Memorial Field House, in honor of former headmaster Louis "Doc" Lamborn, and Lamborn Road, formerly known as Woods Road, named for former headmaster, Dr. Robert "Bob" Lamborn '35.

TURF FIELD NAMED FOR W. BOULTON "BO" DIXON On October 22, hundreds from the McDonogh community gathered to dedicate the turf field to Bo Dixon, McDonogh's Headmaster from 1992-2007. Headmaster Charlie Britton thanked our generous donors and recognized Bo's many contributions to the school, including his impact on students and teachers, as well as his mission to incorporate joy into his everyday work.
"For Bo, it's all about the kids. It always has been, and anyone who truly knows Bo knows that he's a big kid at heart, so it is fitting that an athletic field be named for him."
After unveiling the scoreboard sign, student-athlete representatives presented Bo with a commemorative gift.

CAMPAIGN AND CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
The Work Continues!
- Brick is being installed on the Naylor STEM Building, and the building is approximately 45% complete.
- Steel framing continues to be installed in the St. John Student Center, and the building is approximately 20% complete.
- Work crews have installed lights on the W. Boulton Dixon Turf Field.
- The frame for the school's new power plant was constructed. The facility will provide heat and power for the Naylor STEM and St. John Student Center buildings. Eventually, it will also deliver heat and power to Allan Building and several other structures on campus.
- Progress is being made at the intersection of Lamborn Road (formerly Woods Road) and McDonogh Road. The goal is to finish the intersection by the end of November.
The new spaces will profoundly benefit both students and faculty, and we are grateful to the many donors who have already supported The McDonogh Forever Campaign. So far, we have raised just under $69 million of our $75 million goal. Support is still needed. We hope everyone in the community will choose to be involved - for our current students and for succeeding generations - as we continue our tradition of delivering the best education and opportunities possible. For details about The McDonogh Forever Campaign, contact Christine Krause, Director of Major Gifts, at 410-581-4735 or ckrause@mcdonogh.org.

CALLING ALL CONCERT CHOIR ALUMNI
Two Great Opportunities
Last year, the music department formed a small choir group called The Foxleigh Hill Singers, made up of McDonogh faculty, staff, and a few concert choir alumni. In the spring of 2012, the group debuted in Tagart Memorial Chapel, performing two pieces alongside the Concert Choir and one as an ensemble. We are pleased to invite all Concert Choir alumni to return to campus and join The Foxleigh Hill Singers for a second season. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings in the chapel, from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. If you would like to attend, please email Philip Olsen at polsen@mcdonogh.org.
Plans are already underway for a Concert Choir reunion as part of Reunion Weekend on April 26 and 27, 2013. We hope you will join fellow alumni singers and Director Philip Olsen for two rehearsals and an informal program. Stay tuned for more details.

MEMORIAL COURT: REMEMBERING OUR ALUMNI
Plans are underway for a complete restoration and update of Memorial Court, and we are in the process of identifying McDonogh alumni who lost their lives in the line of service, specifically after World War II.
If you know a classmate who died while serving our country, or if you would like further information about supporting the restoration of this sacred area, please contact Barry Rollins '74 at brollins@mcdonogh.org or 410-581-4771.

HELP STUDENTS PREPARE FOR THE REAL WORLD
We hope that as graduates of McDonogh, you value the education, guidance, and support you received as a student. Please consider giving back a small portion of your time to those who are following in your footsteps.
If you would like to provide career or academic advice to McDonogh students, the Upper School is looking for Senior Project mentors. In addition, alumni with experience in entrepreneurship, philanthropy, the non-profit sector, or environmental stewardship are needed to help with the new Social Entrepreneur course.
Alumni may be asked to speak to a class, mentor a student, or engage in one-on-one conversations with upper schoolers. Distance need is not a factor, as students can use technology to connect with you.
If you are interested, contact Jen Corrigan, Associate Head of Advancement for Alumni Relations, at jcorrigan@mcdonogh.org. |
THE MCDONOGH FUND: IT'S WORTH IT! Thank you, alumni, for your wonderful support of The McDonogh Fund last year. We reached our goal of $1.6 million, and alumni provided 53% of the total raised. Alumni participation increased to 22%, largely driven by strong support of our young alumni. Thank you members of the classes of 1992-2011!
Click on the following images to view "elevator pitches" by Allison, a current senior, and Headmaster Charlie Britton about how your support of McDonogh impacts students and teachers in real ways. These are the first in an entertaining and informative series.

On November 14 and 15, alumni volunteers will be calling to ask you to make a gift or pledge to The McDonogh Fund for the 2012-2013 school year. Broad participation is the key and every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. Please show support of your alma mater and its mission by making a gift. It's worth it!
Alumnus Henry A. Rosenberg, Jr. '48 believes deeply in the importance of The McDonogh Fund and this year, in honor of his 65th reunion, he is offering our community two generous giving challenges. Click the following links to view information about the $65,000 Leadership Challenge and the $25,000 Young Alumni Challenge (1993-2012).
You can use our secure online giving form to make a gift today. For more about The McDonogh Fund, or to volunteer, contact Leslie Zuga at lzuga@mcdonogh.org. |
2012 YEAR END FINANCIAL ALERT!
Maximize Income Opportunities in Today's Economy
Tax management and financial planning is a challenge in any environment, but with the uncertainty facing the Bush era tax cuts, year-end planning is that much more important to consider. There may be significant advantages for you to sell equities before year-end and to also make charitable contributions in 2012.
Take the time to contact your financial adviser and or tax accountant to review your personal situation. To discuss planned giving options, please contact Barry Rollins '74, Director of Gift Planning at 410-581-4771 or brollins@mcdonogh.org.
