How to Update Your Falcon Flyer Subscription

I hope you are enjoying your summer.  This is the time of year when many students are moving on to a new school.  We want to be sure that you receive all of the relevant information for your child.  It is important that subscribers update their profiles and be sure that The Falcon Flyer continues to be able to communicate with all of our parents and community members. Each building is able to communicate with their parents with information that is relevant only to that school. In order to be sure you are signed up for the correct building(s) please update your Falcon Flyer subscription TODAY! Follow the steps below to get information on updating your profile. The rollover for the new school year has been completed.  You should now be receiving emails from the schools you selected in addition to the Falcon Flyer.  If you are experiencing any difficulties with your subscription throughout the year, please contact Liz Scott.

1. Click this link and type in your email address that receives the Falcon Flyer.

(Please note if you have multiple emails registered, you will have to do it for each address).

2. Click "Join"

3. Click the submit button to have the update email sent to your email address.

4. Check your email, follow the prompts and select the appropriate boxes. Everyone should continue their subscription to the Falcon Flyer. Remember this will give you district wide news and emergency information. Then select all schools for which you wish to receive updates.

5. If you are a resident who does not have children in the district or if you are a senior citizen in the community, there is nothing for you to do. All of your information will come through the regular Falcon Flyer.

If there are no school changes for your child, there is nothing else for you to do.  I do hope that those parents who had children graduate this year, will continue their subscription to the Falcon Flyer.  You can simply deselect the specific school and get only notifications from me.  We will continue to provide our entire community with relevant community event information, Senior Citizen Corner news, and emergency updates, in addition to the regular school news.  If you are moving out of the Burlington Township community, simply select unsubscribe at the bottom of any newsletter and you will be removed from our mailing list.

I would like to thank you personally for taking the time to update your profile. My goal is to ensure you have all of the information you need for the schools and community.

If you have any questions or difficulty with this update, please contact me personally and I will assist you.

Child Find for Special Education Services
Special Education Services: Students with disabilities that significantly impact upon their educational progress may be eligible for special education and related services. Upon referral, the Child Study Team (School Psychologist, Learning Consultant and Social Worker) will meet with the family to discuss concerns and to determine if evaluation is necessary. If a student is found to be eligible, an Individual Education Program (I.E.P.) will be developed to meet the educational needs of the student. Programs may include accommodations and modifications in the general education setting to small class instruction with a special education teacher. All decisions regarding the IEP are discussed at least annually and the parent/guardian is encouraged to be an active participant in the process.

Preschool for Students with Disabilities: Do you suspect that your child is slow in developing language or find he/she is having difficulty socializing with others? Your child may be eligible for the Burlington Township School District's Preschool Disabilities Program. This program is open to children between the ages of 3 and 4 years 11 months. For further information contact the Child Study Team Office at 609 387 3955 ext. 2060 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

HIB Reporting Tool

The Burlington Township School District strongly believes that student safety is a fundamental right. Students must be given the opportunity to learn in an environment of trust and support. To that end, we fully embrace the newly-enacted Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights and related board policies.

If a parent or student believes bullying has occurred, the matter should immediately be reported to the Principal, Vice Principal, and/or School Anti-Bullying Specialist.

Parents are also able to report incidents by using the District online tool.

Snap Codes Update

Snap Codes Have Been Mailed
Have you completed your online information yet?

All parents should have received their student(s) snap code by now. Please log into the system today and complete your information.  We are asking parents who have received their snap codes to complete the forms by Friday, August 29th.

If you registered your child after August 1, the code will be mailed to you before the start of the school year.

We are asking that parents complete their information now.  This will allow us to have your emergency information for the first day of school.  Please take a few minutes and complete your child's information now.

The district worked for the last year to expand our efforts of making your children safer while increasing our overall efficiency. This is an important new procedure which will accomplish several things:

  • completing this information online is easier and more convenient for our parents;

  • completing this online is more accurate than transcribing from handwritten cards;

  • completing this before the first day of school allows for proper contact  information;

  • the items contained in Infosnap replace several forms the district mailed in the past, saving paper and postage costs while maintaining important information.
Important Parking Lot Information
New

The Burlington Township School district is constantly assessing ways to improve safety and security.  For the past year, Team Guardian, the District's safety and security team, has been analyzing the traffic flow and monitoring the pedestrian walkways.  Through many months of observations, it was determined that there was a need to make some changes to increase the safety of students, parents and staff.

We are pleased to inform our community of the improvements we have made to the Young School parking lot in order to make it safer.

Effective immediately you will notice the following:

1.  There is still one entrance into the parking lot next to the main office, although this has been widened to allow for an easier right hand turn.

2.  There are now two larger pedestrian crosswalks that are clearly marked.  It is expected that all visitors stop before entering the crosswalk to allow pedestrians safe passage into the parking lot and onto the sidewalk.

3.  One of the major changes you will notice is the change to the two lanes next to the building. There is now one lane for exiting the parking lot and one lane to remain in the parking lot.  The right lane will be used to exit onto Neck Road.  The left lane will be used to gain entrance into the middle of the parking lot.  After the crosswalk, both lanes will be available for those turning either right or left.

4.  The first row of parking spots are now designated for staff and are now slanted in order to improve driver's rear views.

5. *** DO NOT drop students off in the NO DROP OFF ZONE!  Parents must park in the parking lot and escort children into the school.  DO NOT SEND CHILDREN IN UNESCORTED!

Changes at Middle School

Like our other buildings which allow student curbside drop-off, there is now a red designated drop-off zone at Middle School.

Reminder for all schools, when dropping off your children, for their safety, please do so only in the designated areas.

We ask that everyone take extra care when driving through all of our parking lots.  Please obey all posted signs and be sure to be extra mindful of parents and our children.  Please be an observant driver.  Do not text and drive.

Bus Accommodation Alert DEADLINE!!

You will NOT have to complete this form unless you need to make changes to your child's bus stop due to child care issues.

If your child is going to need Accommodation Bussing for the upcoming school year, the form should have been completed and returned by August 19th, 2014.  You are now able to complete the form online and submit it electronically.  Click here to complete the Accommodation form online.  Requests that missed the August 19th deadline MAY not be considered until after October 1st.

You may drop them off or mail them to BOE, PO BOX 428, Burlington, NJ 08016. According to Policy #3541.1 this transportation must be both TO and FROM the same bus stop every day.

Also, those students who will not be using the Township school busses and will be either walkers, transported by parents or will be bussed by a Day Care, need to send in a note ASAP. This will assist the elementary school with ensuring the correct information is encoded on the student ID tags before mailing them out in August.  You may also submit this information online now.  Click here to send the note electronically.

The transportation department may also be contacted at this email address: transportation@burltwpsch.org.  This email address will reach multiple people.

Safety & Security

TEAM GUARDIAN AND CODE BLUE RESPONSE TEAMS:

Team Guardian was established to ensure that Burlington Township engages in a continuous process of improvement in safety and security matters.  The Team meets regularly and includes staff and community members to address specific concerns.  During 2013-2014 the team provided training to staff and provided after-action reports for various events and incidents to ensure lessons learned were incorporated into overall district practices.

During 2014-2015, the district administration and operations department will continue to work with the police to further define protocols.  The important pieces of any safety plan are strong relationships and an informed community.

The district has been preparing for the last year to have Code Blue Response Teams for each building ready for the beginning of this school year.  This requirement led the district to partner with Endeavor Emergency Squad who trained almost 130 staff members in CPR/AED this summer alone, along with 40 staff members
trained last year.

Please see the enclosed information about how to help keep our schools safe.  Visit our Parent Guide to Safety and Security.

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT, STUDENT NETWORK AND GOOGLE PASSWORDS (ALL SCHOOLS EXCEPT BBYS):
silver-keyboard2.jpg

The Board of Education has provided technology resources to students to support their learning.  The district has moved to Windows 7 platform to be more prepared for PARCC testing.  During the last five months additional computer labs have been created in the Middle School (2), Fountain Woods School (3) and Young School (1).  Over the next few months additional labs will be created at the High School complex.

All student network passwords will be reset for the beginning of the school year.  Student's Google passwords will not be reset unless requested.  This would be done at school during the first week of school.

Construction Update
construction_crane.jpg

Last fall, the district submitted several applications for ROD (Regular Operating District) grants.   When these grants were awarded, the district was ready with several projects.

The High School and Hopkins buildings are receiving new energy efficient windows replacing the original 50 year old windows.  An emergency generator dedicated to the technology center is also being installed and will be ready later this year.  The Board of Education has awarded a contract to provide air conditioning to the remaining classrooms in the High School building by next spring.

After all the construction is complete, the district will use the remaining funds to install wireless access in key areas throughout the district.  The initial scoping work for this project has begun and installation is scheduled for late spring 2015.

Calling All BT alumni, Former Employees, and BOE Members
