November 20, 2013
Dear Burlington Township Families: As anticipated, Dr. Christopher M. Manno tendered his official resignation to the Board of Education on November 14, 2013. Those members of the Board of Education that can participate in the process, have identified an Interim Superintendent. This will allow the Board to engage in a thoughtful and deliberate process to identify the next educational leader of Burlington Township Schools while maintaining the effective management and operations of the district in the interim. The Board has also selected a superintendent search firm and is establishing a timeline to identify qualified candidates and will develop a process that involves community, staff and students. The Board of Education will keep our community updated as progress develops. Interim Superintendent The role of the Interim Superintendent will be to maintain the day to day operations of the district and to continue the high level of engagement with the community, students, and staff. The Interim will serve in this position until the new superintendent of the Burlington Township School District is appointed.
The Board of Education has chosen to appoint Paul A. Spaventa to serve as the Interim Superindent. Mr. Spaventa has two Masters degrees in Education and Administration from Rowan University and Temple University and a Bachelor's Degree from Trenton State College. Mr. Spaventa has served as a Superintendent in the Clementon School District, Mount Holly School District, Gloucester City School District, and as an Interim in the Sterling High School District. He has also worked as as adjunct professor at the collegiate level. Mr. Spaventa has experience with special education through the Y.A.L.E. school where he served as the principal. He is also a former sixth grade teacher. His administrative, educational, and leadership experience will be a valuable asset to the district as we transition through the search phase.
Mr. Spaventa retired after completing his contract in Gloucester City, where he served as superintendent for four years. During his Interim time at Sterling Regional School District he was an active Interim who engaged with the community and the students.
Mr. Spaventa is a father of three grown sons, Dominic, Mark, and Ed who work in insurance, construction, and culinary arts respectively. His wife, Mrs. Eileen Spaventa, has a teaching degree and works currently as a special education teacher's aide at Eastern High School. He was involved in the wrestling program. He has served on the executive council for NJSIAA, NJASA, and is an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Dr. Manno speaks highly of Mr. Spaventa. He says, " Mr. Spaventa is an experienced school administrator with the knowledge and background to facilitate a smooth transition of leadership for our schools. He is a gentleman and will work well with all members of the school community." Dr. Manno also credits Mr. Spaventa for teaching him about Residency fraud, which has been aggressively addressed by our school district. Dr. Manno is looking forward to working with him to ensure a smooth transition.
The Burlington Township School District would like to welcome Mr. Spaventa. |
