Legionnaires' Disease Hits Las Vegas Hotel!
Cases of Legionella continue to become more prevalent, particularly in the hospitality industry.  As described in this article, two guests who recently stayed at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas contracted Legionnaires' Disease, a "severe form of pneumonia that develops when people breathe small droplets of water infected with Legionella bacteria."

Share this article with your insureds and educate them on the impact that legionella or legionella pneumophila can have on their business.  Legionella is typically not covered under standard General Liability and Property policies.  Pollution Legal Liability (PLL), however, will provide coverage for clean-up/remediation expense, third-party bodily injury and property damage, and defense expense as legionella/legionella pneumophila can be included in the Definition of Pollutants/Pollution Conditions.  In addition, Contractor's Pollution Liability (CPL), provides coverage for pollution conditions that occur as a result of covered contracting operations (i.e., the installation/maintenance of HVAC systems/cooling towers) performed by or on behalf of the name insured.
