The final plans for the replacement of the water main by WaterOne of Johnson County are in place with work scheduled to begin Monday February 29, 2016. During this time sections of Mission Road will be completely impassable in the work zones. Detour routes to Roe Blvd. will be marked to assist motorists in the area and sign boards were set up last Friday to give motorist advanced warning of the project. All businesses on Mission Road are open during the project and detours will be marked to assist patrons in quickly getting to them. The first few days of the project will involve the closure of the Howe Drive/Reinhardt & Mission Road intersection while Water One taps into the main. During this time Mission Road will remain open requiring vehicles coming off Shawnee Mission Parkway to use Eastvale or 61st Terrace to enter Reinhardt Estates. Once the initial work has been completed the Howe Drive/Reinhardt & Mission Road intersection will reopen and Mission Road in the "S" curve will be closed. As the project advances down Mission Road toward 63rd Street WaterOne will only be closing the sections of Mission Road they are working in; these sections of Mission Road will be impassable to all traffic. The WaterOne project is expected to take between two and three months. Upon completion of the main replacement the City of Fairway will begin a mill and overlay project to complete the street repairs on Mission Road. The target completion date for the mill and overlay work will be in the summer; a more precise date will be determined as the project progresses and no road closure is anticipated during this time. At no time will traffic into or out of Reinhardt Estates be restricted to only one road.
The Fire Department and Johnson County Med-Act have been advised and have worked out alternate routes for emergency vehicles while the road is closed and impassable. The Fairway Police Department will monitor traffic patterns on a daily basis and address concerns when they come up. This may include the placing of Temporary No Parking signs on some residential streets that will be enforced during peak traffic times.
For residents familiar with the area please try to avoid the construction and use alternate routes during this time as it will help in easing the flow of traffic. The Police Department will be monitoring traffic in the Highlands and Reinhardt Estates to address concerns as soon as possible and want to know of any problems as they occur. Thank you ahead of time for your cooperation and understanding during the shutdown.
