New HRIA Chapter Established in Lethbridge
The Human Resources Management Association of Lethbridge (HRMAL) held a Special Meeting on February 12, 2013 to vote on dissolving their independent association and merging as a Chapter of HRIA. We are pleased to announce that the motion to dissolve was successfully passed with 90% in favour and we are now one step closer to becoming One Association. Over the next few months, the HRMAL Board will go through the required steps laid out by the Societies Act to wind down their association, and area members will see the branding transfer to the HRIA Lethbridge Chapter.

Call for Nominations -HRIA Board of Directors 2013-14
On the verge of becoming one association, the HRIA Board of Directors is seeking three (3) senior level HR professionals to lead the governance of our association. As a policy governance board, Directors are expected to provide insight into understanding the diverse needs of stakeholders across the province. In the Board's oversight capacity, your contributions will focus on the vision and the long term planning of the profession, rather than day-to-day details of operating the association. Your ability to think in terms of systems and context - to see the big picture - will be vital to aiding our Board as we continue to evolve our profession and the association to meet the needs of the future. |

Inquiry into the State of HR in Canada in 2013
Queen's University Industrial Relations Centre (IRC) specializes in delivering programs that meet the learning needs of professionals in human resources, labour relations, and organizational development. The Centre also conducts practitioner-focused research that complements its programming. In 2011, Queen's IRC began a longitudinal, practitioner-focused research project that explores the state of the HR profession in Canada. Now, as part of this on-going project, Queen's IRC is launching a second online survey.
The 2013 survey is divided into two sections. The first section asks demographic questions aimed to better understand the varied roles and responsibilities of Canada's HR practitioners. The second section seeks perspectives on the HR profession. Below, you will find a link to the 2013 survey.
We invite you to participate in this Queen's IRC initiative and share your insights on the HR profession in Canada. Please note that the survey will close on April 5, 2013.

Mental Health Campaign in Spring 2013 Mental health is everyone's business and affects all workplaces in Alberta. With 500,000 Canadians missing work each day due to mental health issues, and 1 in 3 workplace disability claims related to mental illness, the cost of doing nothing is substantial. HR professionals need to be aware of the mental health issues that may be affecting their employees.
To increase awareness of mental health issues in organizations and to help support a mentally healthy workplace, Partners for Mental Health, a national charitable organization, is launching its Not Myself Today campaign this spring. How can you be involved in and benefit from this initiative?
