A Note from the Auxiliary President
Laurie Neistrath

Do It Well.  Make It Fun.

Happy New Year!  Welcome to 2016.  The days leading up to Lights of Love are full of many last minute details that make the event successful.  Doing it well is an integral part of each auxiliary event.  The program is a success as a result of the hard work and dedication of a wealth of volunteers as well as members of the community. The Charlottesville High School Choir provided lovely music for the event, which featured a visit from Santa Claus!

The guests of honor were our Pet Therapy handlers and their dogs. Therapy Dogs are a natural conversation starter for visitors to the Medical Center. Interactions are a welcome respite for our many patients and their families.

Do it Well - Flourish December Sale
Flourish, a positive
image boutique

Flourish hosted its December sale with flair.  Christmas carols and light refreshments set the mood for shopping.  With each purchase came a choice of a free Swarovski bracelet or necklace, as well as a raffle ticket to win one of three prizes - a robe, t-shirt, or necklace.  The day was a success. If you couldn't attend the sale this year, we hope to see you next year.
Make it Fun - Wheel Chair Bags for the Transitional Care Hospital

Jennifer Thompson, of Cottonwood Quilt Store will offer a class on how to make walker wheel chair bags for patients at the Transitional Care Hospital. Bags make such a difference for the patients at TCH.  The ability to access personal belongings, glasses, Kleenex, or a phone while up and out of bed provides an opportunity for independence and mobility.  If you would like to learn more about how to make one of these beautifully crafted bags you may call the shop at 434.244.9975 or email:  [email protected]

Make it fun - Community Volunteer Book Discussion

Join fellow volunteers for a discussion of The Generosity Network.  Author Jennifer McCrea spoke at a luncheon in Charlottesville last November. The auxiliary is a member of The Center for Nonprofit Excellence, the host for the luncheon. The CNE provides services that assist nonprofit groups, such as the auxiliary, to flourish. Interested in learning eleven secrets for how our network of volunteers can continue to thrive?  If so, consider joining us for part I of the discussion, "Giving, Getting, Growing."
