Chamber Board Encourages Businesses to take Advantage of Work-Based Learning

The Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has recently endorsed the Work-Based Learning program coordinated by the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC).
The work based training program helps students develop relevant job skills that will benefit individuals and employers, thus building stronger companies and our local economy. This program saves employers time and money normally spent on skill development and training programs. The Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber encourages local business to participate in this program. Twenty Leaders Graduate from Muskegon In Focus

Muskegon In Focus just concluded another successful session graduating 20 community leaders with a whole new knowledge of Muskegon. This 8-week community leadership program boasted 64 speakers over the eight sessions and traveled to more than 25 different locations around Muskegon County including ADAC Automotive, Anderson Global, Cole's Quality Foods, USS Silversides Submarine Museum, Alcoa Howmet, MLive, Culinary Institute of Michigan, and others!
The Muskegon In Focus Leadership Program is produced by the Chamber each fall in partnership with Muskegon Community College. Thank you to the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary for providing scholarship money for several students whom attended. This program was sponsored by Alcoa Howmet.

Rachel Stewart has been interning at the Chamber since August. She has recently been hired as a part-time community information manager and front desk receptionist. Rachel is a 2010 graduate of Oakridge High School and is currently attending Grand Valley State University. In June of 2014, Rachel will graduate from Grand Valley with her Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with emphasis in Meetings and Event Planning.
"Working for the Chamber has been a great opportunity for me," says Rachel Stewart. "I have learned so much about the community I grew up in and am excited to watch it continue to grow."
