Lower School

Author Diane Lang - Bringing Love for the Unloved Animals to New Horizon

Students of New Horizon Lower School will have the opportunity to enjoy a visit from author Diane Lang on Friday, March 1. In her work as a docent at three wildlife centers in Northern California, Diane Lang has come to know, understand, and love the animals that aren't the subject of adorable YouTube videos: snakes, insects, bats, vultures, skunks, and more. She began writing them love poems, which led to the publication of the gorgeous book, Vulture Verses, in the fall of 2012.

Diane has become much in demand as a presenter and speaker at schools, parks, nature centers, and museums. She travels regularly throughout California (and the west) and is coming to New Horizon to read her poems and bring her favorite critters (including Terra the tarantula) to share with our students.

Mrs. Nelson's Toy and Book Shop will be handling book sales for the event. For information about purchasing a signed copy of her book, Vulture Verses. click here

Please note:   Diane Lang is providing her presentation to the students at no cost to the school.  In return, we are promoting the sales of her book.  Please support this event with your purchase.

PTO Coffee Social

Please join us this Friday, March 1, for a coffee social where we'll discuss upcoming events and PTO activities, such as the Walk-a-thon. The social is from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.in the Middle School Library, and light refreshments and coffee will be served. All parents are welcome!

Silent Auction Donations

Another way to support the PTO is by donating an item to be auctioned at the Annual Benefit Dinner on March 9. Proceeds from the bids on the auction items go directly to support the PTO. Some people have donated gift certificates from local businesses that are trying to attract new customers. Free, or steeply discounted, services from beauty salons, photography studios, flower shops and other businesses would be popular. Please also ask your friends and family. PTO would like to thank our group of committed coordinators!

Vending Machine Snack Items

Support the PTO and the school by donating multi-packs of Sun Chips or Trail Mix.  If you have questions about other snacks or drinks that are needed, please contact Farah Bhatti at pto@newhorizonschool.org

SCRIP

The next order will be on March 6. Please leave your order at the office along with payment. Please plan ahead and think about how you might use scrip during Spring Break! For more information, please contact Francesca Elzanaty at scrip@newhorizonschool.org
