Yeshivat Makor Chaim Exchange Program: Week One Review
by Jonathan Felman ('18)
On Monday, thirteen MTA boys made the long journey to Ertez Yisrael to begin the annual student exchange program with Yeshivat Makor Chaim. After landing in the Holy Land very early Tuesday morning, we had an uplifting davening at Ben-Gurion airport. We then spent the day touring; we visited the tank museum and of course the Kotel amongst other places, and we were awed by the pure beauty of the Kotel during our time spent davening mincha there. When the bus finally pulled up to Makor Chaim, the weary boys were swept up in the spirited dancing led by their new Israeli friends who welcomed them so warmly.
Settling in quickly, we are deeply enjoying our time in Israel already - hopin to make the most of the six week experience presented to us in order to grow spiritually and emotionally. Slowly but surely, we are learning the Israeli style and hope to bring some of the ruach back to MTA to impact the school in a resounding fashion. Making friends with the kids and Rebbeim, we are having a sensational time, and eagerly look forward to our first Shabbos spent in Eretz Yisrael, which will be in the yeshiva. We are all hoping to growing in every way possible from this exciting opportunity.

MTA Visits Brandeis University
by Avraham Tsikhanovski ('16)
Last week, Mr. Sragow, MTA's Director of College Guidance, and two MTA seniors visited Brandeis University. The trip started on Friday morning and the MTA delegation arrived at Brandeis around noon. After eating some delicious food at the Kosher cafeteria, they proceeded to the admissions office to hear a very informative presentation about the university.
They learned that Brandeis was founded as a response to racism at Ivy League colleges in the 1940's. Jews and other minorities were often denied to admission to the Ivies due to prejudice, and many leading Jewish figures at the time founded the university as a school of higher learning which would accept people regardless of their socio-economic and religious backgrounds.
Shabbos proved to be a very special experience as well. Mr. Sragow and the students were treated to the warm hospitality of the students at Brandeis. Davening, eating, and socializing with the students proved to be very informative about the Jewish life on campus, and the students answered any questions that the seniors and Mr. Sragow posed. Over the weekend the group got to experience the wonderful autumn of Waltham, Massachusetts and specifically the attractive campus of Brandeis University.
All in all, it was a very pleasant and educational trip. Mendel Weintraub and I want to thank Mr. Sragow for the sacrifice and effort that he put into organizing the trip.

MTA LEADers Learn To Network
On Wednesday, with the help of Mrs. HLZacks, MTA LEAD hosted a small networking event, allowing prospective entrepreneurs to meet and partner with prospective product designers. Students from across all grades joined along with the Scientific Engineering students and worked in small groups to play the role of both the business leader and the product innovator. Students discussed ideas ranging from new websites to strollers that can divert rain. At the conclusion, the students were posed a challenge; they were tasked with going home and speaking to three different people to find out about a problem that each person finds frustrating. They then need to choose one of the three and try to develop a solution and email their odea to Shuey Jacoby, who will review all the plans with Mrs. HLZacks. The student who submits the idea which Shuey and Mrs. HLZacks determine to be the best will earn a free lunch!
In partnership with YU's Sy Syms School of Business, MTA LEAD was founded in 2012 to enable provide business minded students with an unparalleled platform to learn important skills. Over the course of the year, participating students attend workshops from college professors, hear lectures from senior business executives, are mentored by Syms' students and/or ultimately pitch a business idea to the MTA LEAD executive council. For more information, contact Shuey Jacoby at joshua.jacoby@yu.edu.

by Shimmy Mandelbaum ('16)
On Thursday, December 17th, Rabbi Shulman's Shiur had the opportunity to help distribute meals to the needy community in Queens through Masbia. The class began their eventful morning arriving at the Masbia headquarters at 11:15 AM and got straight to work. Tasks completed by the students ranged from packing onions into bags to taking orders in Hebrew and Russian, and were completed enthusiastically and productively. From the time the boys arrived until the time they left, which was roughly 2:00 PM, virtually every moment was occupied by the students hard at work to do this great chesed. The Shiur had a great time partaking in this unique chesed opportunity and celebrated by having lunch at Carlos & Gabby's. Hopefully, Rabbi Shulman's shiur as well as all the other shiurim in MTA will be able to take advantage of such a meaningful opportunity in the near future.
