MTA Thanksgiving Day Shiurim

Although there were no regular sessions on Thanksgiving Day, MTA hosted morning Shiurim, including refreshments, in six of its various local communities: Rabbi Jonathan Kessel spoke in Bergen Coiunty, Rabbi Mordechai Brownstein spoke in Brooklyn, Rabbi Shimon Schenker spoke in Edison, Rabbi Mayer Schiller spoke in Monsey, Rabbi Jon Green spoke in Queens, and Rabbi Elon Soniker spoke in West Hempstead. The Shiurim were attended by MTA students, parents, prospective students and community members.

In all, close to 150 people participated in this incredible learning opportunity! A special thank you to all the Rebbeim who presented the Shiurim and to the Quint and Lipman families for sponsoring the program in loving memory of Esther bas Isser Tzvi.

Yeshiva Fellowship Visits Mike's Bistro
by David Tanner ('18)

This past Wednesday, the 10th Grade Yeshiva Fellowship was privileged to visit Mike's Bistro for a special field trip to learn about practical Kashrus. First, Rabbi Dov Schreier, a senior Rabbinic Coordinator at the Orthodox Union, presented a slideshow to us highlighting various Kashrus problems, teaching us how to be educated consumers at Kosher venues, and highlighting what questions are good ones when it comes to Kashrus matters. This covered a wide variety of topics, from "What qualifies a bishul akum?" to "Why is it important to know the whole story in Kashrus?" and even "Are Oreo's dairy?" After this, we went on a guided tour of the restaurant's kitchens led by Rabbi Schrier and the various mashgichim, where we were able to see some of the things we had just learned about put into practice, such as the use of color-coded deep-friers for fish, meat and pareve items, and the one-way entrance through whih all deliveries go in order to insure that everything is supervised upon arrival. We then hopped on the bus for a delicious lunch at Amsterdam Burger before heading back to MTA. Our Kashrus trip was very informative and opened our eyes to the fact that we, as consumers, are responsible for what we put in our mouths. We thank Rabbi Pearl, Rabbi Schreier, and Mike's Bistro for making this trip such a success.
Rastegar Capital Partners with MTA Athletics

Yeshiva University High School for Boys (YUHSB) is delighted to announce a partnership with Rastegar Capital, a private investment firm dedicated to providing an abundance of wealth so that individuals can enjoy the abundances of life. As part of this partnership, Rastegar Capital has provided all MTA basketball and hockey student athletes - both Junior Varsity and Varsity - with Under Armour® warm-up apparel bearing the Rastegar Capital logo.

Rastegar Capital takes special interest in supporting the causes that their investors are supporters of and more importantly the communities that are the homes of the real estate assets that they own. They are focused on growing communities and investing in assets that not only help the tenants prosper, but also help the communities at large.

Ari Rastegar, CEO of Rastegar Capital, expressed his enthusiasm for being able to support MTA athletics saying, "Education provided me with the greatest gifts and opportunities that now enable me to support our local youth. It's an honor to play a role in the physical well-being and education of students at the nation's first and oldest academic Jewish high school."

Sponsoring YUHSB is especially special to Rastegar Capital because it was the educational home of two of its original founders, J.D. ('04) and Jessie ('08) Stettin.

JV Basketball Recap

The MTA Lions started off the season 2-0 coming into the tough stretch of games against Frisch and JEC. They played Frisch well in a close game, but the Cougars ultimately held on. Then on Thursday night, the Lions took on the JEC Thunder in The MAX. Leading after the half by one thanks to key shots by Eitan Warburg and Eitan Pfeiffer, the Lions ultimately fell just short of a "W." The Lions look to rebound off that two game losing streak and beat MAOR on Sunday.

Rabbi Gopin's Shiur volunteered this week at Masbia soup kitchen.

A letter from an MTA student to his teacher

Dear _____________,

I wanted to let you know that I received a 5 on all of the APs I took. I would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you for this year. As I appreciate more now, very few people (if any) have the privilege to learn so much in their third year of high school.

After taking your course I must admit that my outlook towards the world was changed. It seems amazing that the universe can be described so accurately using mathematics. The labs were important in this regard. For me, while learning from the textbook was interesting, seeing that the universe obeyed these laws firsthand was more shocking. But even greater was the GWB trip, where after calculating very rough approximations of the tensions on our first test we had the opportunity to see the bridge in depth.

I would also like to thank you for many of the interesting lectures that you delivered. The most memorable ones for me were the string of lectures at the end of the first semester going through the Imaginary Exponentials, and Resonance. As well as the ones on the Fourier Series and the Earth being a giant capacitor with air as dielectric to explain lightning.

Last but not least I enjoyed the classes' pace.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Sincerely,
Appreciative MTA Student
