Nine YUHSB Students Admitted to YU Honors
More than 15% of this year's Senior class, as well as one Junior, have been accepted to the Honors Program at Yeshiva College. Mazel tov to Seniors Rafael Anapolle, Yisrael Friedenberg, Menachem Gans, Zvi Goldstein, Yoni Kornblau, Yoni Schechter, Steven Stein, and Yehuda Tager, and to Junior Yishai Eisenberg.
The Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein Honors Program at YU is one of the most prestigious programs at any college in the United States, with its participants having attained average SAT or ACT scores exceeding those of students in most Ivy League colleges. In order just to apply, a student must have a 90 average and an SAT or ACT in the 95th percentile.
All nine of our applicants were admitted, and all were offered significant academic scholarships. We are honored that once again the best students at YUHSB are recognized as being the best students anywhere.
Congratulations to Seniors who were admitted this week to the following colleges: |

Rabbi Shulman Delivers Alumni Shiur At YU
On Tuesday night, Rabbi Avraham Shulman, Senior Rebbe and Grade Mashgiach, gave a beautiful and inspiring shiur to MTA alumni who are currently studying in YU's undergraduate colleges. There was a very nice and warm sense of achdus and chevra in the room.
After the shiur, a large number of the alumni stayed for a while to eat doughnuts and just "shmooze." It was a nice start to what we hope will develop into a more robust and long-term program for MTA alumni studying here in YU.
We are very appreciative of Rabbi Shulman and Shuey Jacoby for coming out in the rain for the benefit our talmidim. Thanks as well to rabbi schenker for his efforts to make this happen. We hope to have another shiur/get together in the beginning of February.

Shakespeare In MTA
Mrs. Levitt's Class Performs Macbeth
Mrs. Levitt's Honors English class just completed performing the classic Shakespeare play Macbeth in class as part of their learning the story of this ambitious king who killed his way to the top. Acting the Bard's lines provided an appreciation of the play not learned by simply reading the words. Each student now feels what was truly intended by thre author. "Out, damned spot, out I say!"
Shakespeare Monologue Competition
Round Three of the Shakespeare Monologue Competition will be held on Monday at breakfast, Dec 29 in the library.
It is always amazing to see which students are able to portray the words of the Bard. Be sure to see this round even if you attended the first two sessions!

Seniors Attend Off-Broadway Production of "Wiesenthal"

On Wednesday, the entire senior class attended the biographical off-Broadway play "Wiesenthal," recounting the life of Simon Wiesenthal, known as the "Jewish James Bond," a Holocaust survivor renowned for his work as a "Nazi hunter" who tracked down Nazi war criminals all over the world in order to bring them to trial and justice.
In preparation for the play, Dr. Taylor presented a background session on Wiesenthal's life and work.
The riveting one man play was both written by and stars Tom Dugan, the son of a World War II veteran who liberated the Buchenwald concentration camp. During Wiesenthal's long career, he brought to justice some 1,100 Nazis and when asked what the rationale was behind his devotion to his life's work, he said, "I believe in G-d and in life after death and when I meet in the world to come the millions of Jews who perished in the Holocaust, I want to be able to say "I did not forget you."
The students were moved by the play's stirring messages about tenacity and heroism, and they then had the opportunity to find out even more interesting information during a Q&A session with Mr. Dugan after the play.
In conjunction with the "Names, Not Numbers" project, Tova Rosenberg, the project's creator and director, was able to secure fully funded tickets for our students from the Shoah Foundation, whose members thought the play would "align very well with the students' project."

Makor Chaim Students Prepare For Their Trip

Next Monday, the largest group of MTA sophomores to date will be leaving for an exciting trip of nearly 6 weeks to Eretz Yisrael where they will become students at Yeshivat Makor Chaim in Kfar Etzion. On Thursday, one of the English classes threw a going away party for those in their class who are leaving for this incredible opportunity. Matthew Albert, one of the participants, presented a Dvar Torah which reflected his passion to be and learn in Israel. We would like to thanks Mrs. Levitt for making this possible.
Later that afternoon, the entire Makor Chaim group assembled in Rabbi Taubes' office together with Rabbi Richter and Mrs. Rosenberg, who will accompany them on the flight. Rabbi Taubes shared some last minute instructions and then urged the students to make the most of this opportunity by gleaning all the positive things they will encounter in Israel and incorporating them appropriately into their personalities in order to enhance their experience as MTA students.
