Purim Chagigah Enjoyed By All!
by Kovi Diament ('16)
This past Monday was MTA's annual Shushan Purim Chagigah. Many students came in costumes including a snowman, a magician, hippies, and an Indian, among many others. The Chagigah began with dancing and music by the Shir Soul band (led by our own Music teacher, Mr. David Ross), and everyone enjoyed the lively dancing and school spirit.
Following the dancing, a dvar torah was given by Rabbi Yaakov Glasser of YU's Center for the Jewish Future about the messages of Purim and how they can influence us on a personal level. The three-time championship winning MTA Chorus then performed for everyone. At the Purim costume contest which followed, students showed their costumes to the judging faculty members, Mrs. Levitt and Ms. Haibi, one grade at a time, some acting like the object or personality they were trying to portray. This was a great friendly competition which really showed the creativity of many students. Prizes for the winners included a salami and other food and the grand prize of a one hundred dollar bill. This was followed by more dancing and music and hamantashen for everyone. The program concluded with a very funny Purim video put together by our seniors, which depicted different aspects of MTA in a comical way, and some entertainment by the MTA school band. Altogether, it was a very enjoyable Purim in MTA.

Rabbi Jonathan Sacks Speaks About Pesach
by Amiel Katz ('16)
This week at MTA, the students got the tremendous chance to hear from Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, former Chief Rabbi of the British Commonwealth. The entire school met in Lamport Auditorium where Rabbi Taubes introduced him as one of the most influential rabbinic leaders and sought after speakers in the Jewish world today. Rabbi Sacks addressed the students about the upcoming holiday of Pesach.
He began by noting that the Jewish people, who were the lowly slaves to the Egyptians, were able to outlive the great Egyptian empire. That empire ultimately crumbled while their slaves are still around today celebrating yetzias mitzrayim every year. Rabbi Sacks attributed this to the great emphasis placed by Moshe Rabbeinu on education and training the future generations in his very first speech to the Jews as they prepared to leave Egypt. He also explained why chessed is such a basic part of our religious behavior.
We are very thankful to Rabbi Sacks for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk to us and we hope that he will visit again soon.

Rabbi Schenker's Shiur Helps Out at Masbia Soup Kitchen
by Josh Klein ('17)
This past Thursday, Rabbi Schenker's 9th grade shiur went to Masbia, a soup kitchen in Queens. Along with Mr. David Leshaw, the class had the opportunity to come together as a group to help the needy. We helped people of many different cultures, religions, and languages choose their food for the week and helped them pack it. Getting to see what it means to be without the basic needs in life was a really great learning experience for us all. I think we did a great deed, and we should all continue to do so whenever possible.

Soccer Continues to Roll
by Zach Stein ('17)
This past Monday night, the MTA Lions traveled to Flatbush to try to improve on their 2-0 record. The game was tight throughout the first-half due to some fouls committed by MTA. Going into the locker room the score was 3-2 MTA. The second half started the same way with some sloppy play by MTA, but towards the end they took over. The Lions beat the Falcons 8-3, to improve their record to 3-0.
Some key contributors were goalie Shmuel Bitton, who also scored a goal of his own, Dovid Ort (2 goals) and Phillip Meyer (3 goals). The Lions look to improve their record this upcoming week with two big games. On Monday, MTA will be playing the Ramaz Rams and on Wednesday they will be playing the formidable SAR Sting.
