MTA Chorus Goes Back-to-Back-to-Back! by Gabi Rosenthal ('15)
On Wednesday, the MTA Chorus traveled to TABC looking to defend their V'ata Banim Shiru Choir Competition victory from last year and their victory from 2011 (there was no competition in 2012).
The competition is held as a fundraiser for the Koby Mandell Foundation, and includes choirs from other area yeshiva high schools. This year there were three schools competing: MTA, Rambam, and JEC; each school prepared a fast song and a slow song.
The MTA choir sang Adon Olam (with an original arrangement by the chorus leader Mr. David Ross), and Na'ar Hayiti. After each performance, a panel of judges consisting of: Shlomie Kaufman, Elchonon Majeski of AKA Pella, Ely Shestack of the Maccabeats, and Ari Lewis, also of the Maccabeats, shared remarks about each of the songs.
At the end of the night the MTA Chorus came out on top, and thus successfully defended their previous championships!
A special thanks to Mr. David Ross for all the great effort that he puts into working with the chorus and getting us ready for every performance.

Mr. Sragow Addresses the Debate Team
by Asher Finkelstein ('15)
Next week, MTA debaters will be heading to DRS to debate the question of whether online streaming of copyrighted materials should be subject to criminal penalty.
Our own Mr. Murray Sragow, Director of our College Guidance Department, who has some expertise in this area, agreed to address the debate club this past Tuesday night. He gave a tremendously informative and intriguing presentation about the various angles of this rich topic. There are legal, economic, and moral questions to be dealt with. We also discussed the halakhic view on intellectual property.
The debaters all left with a far greater perspective as well as technical knowledge on the topic. We thank Mr. Sragow for speaking with us and hope we will have the opportunity to hear from him again in the future.

Ron Skotarczak, EVP of Marketing Partnerships at MSG, Speaks at Kukin Lecture Series; MTA LEAD Students Participate
Last Friday, students in the MTA LEAD program had the opportunity to hear from Ron Skotarczak, EVP of Marketing Partnerships at Madison Square Garden. Mr. Skotarczak, who is a member of Sports Business Journal's prestigious 40 under 40 club, spoke to the students about his own career path (in which he's had the opportunity to work for the Philadelphia 76ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Hoops TV, and more) and what it's like to serve as a senior executive at one of the world's largest Sports & Entertainment companies. In addition to the Knicks, Rangers and Liberty, MSG also owns the Hartford Wolfpack and the recently acquired and still unnamed NBA D-League team in Westchester, along with six other arenas around the country; most recently, they bought the LA Forum a year ago, spent $100 million renovating it, and re-opened it in January.
Mr. Skotarczak began his lecture speaking about the sports and entertainment industry at large, and then honed in on MSG specifics. He highlighted two key areas that he attributes to his success: goal setting and networking. When he entered the industry, his goal was to one day be president of the 76ers. While his goal has changed and has become more family oriented, he was able to make career decisions by asking himself if they are bringing him closer to his goal. Additionally, in all industries and especially in tight knit industries like sports & entertainment, it's always important to maintain relationships.
- On Wednesday, a lunch was held with MTA LEAD students who submitted business ideas and their assigned Sy Syms School of Business undergraduate student mentors. The mentors will be working with the students as they develop their ideas and prepare to present to the Executive Council later this school year.
- MTA LEAD was featured in this week's edition of The Jewish Link of Bergen County. Read the story here.

MTA Sports Management Club Secures Marketing Partnership with Five Star Catering
In advance of Yeshiva University's upcoming Sarachek Basketball Tournament, which will be taking place on campus beginning March 27th with the participation of schools from throughout the country, the Sports Management Club - led by Joey Goffstein ('14) - secured their first marketing partnership.
Proudly, the club announces a deal with Five Star Catering, who have become the Official Caterer of the MTA Varsity Basketball Lions during the course of the tournament.
As a team partner, Five Star is also the presenting partner of the "T-Shirt Toss" and their logo will be featured on the t-shirt giveaways during the Lions' games. As Goffstein explained,"getting this deal done was a tremendous learning experience and provided great insight into the sports marketing industry. We're excited to have partnered with such a top-tier catering service."

Yisroel Loewy and Shimmy Socol of MTATV Produce Award Winning Documentary
by Yisroel Loewy ('16)
On Wednesday morning March 5, the news went out - MTA had won an award in the C-SPAN StudentCam documentary contest. "Made in the USA", a documentary produced by Yisroel Loewy ('15) and Shimmy Socol ('16) of MTATV, had won The Honorable Mention Award out of 2,355 entries.
This year's theme was "What's The Most Important Issue Congress Should Consider in 2014?" We decided that we wanted to produce a documentary about what indeed turned out to be the number one topic discussed, the economy - specifically, less outsourcing and more in-sourcing. We did not want this documentary to be just any standard film stating facts about this nation's fiscal situation so we decided to show it in the best way we possible could. We took to the streets of NYC where we filmed various scenes depicting what outsourcing jobs is actually doing to the middle class.

We also ran a series of interviews, one with CEO and YouTube infotainer Chris Pirillo of Lockergnome Inc. and one with YUHSB's own recruiting consultant, Shuey Jacoby. The award consists of a cash prize and a spot on the StudentCam winners' page here. MTATV's winning entry can also be viewed by clicking on the first image above.
We would like to thank all those who helped make this documentary a success and hope to produce more in the future.

Juniors and Seniors Hear Harrowing Story of Alcohol Addiction
by Yoni Samet ('15)
This week, the juniors and seniors attended a program coordinated by our Guidance Department about the dangers of drinking and what alcohol consumption may lead to. After an introduction by Rabbi Taubes and some words from Mrs. Tamar Sheffey, our School Social Worker, the main part of the program began. The speakers were from SAFE, an outpatient addiction clinic in Brooklyn that services the Jewish community and that runs Project SAFE, a school based prevention program.
Mr. Yossi Sirote, the Associate Director of Special Programs for SAFE, introduced the keynote speaker, Mr. Joe Cabasso. Mr. Cabasso was a drug addict who eventually overcame his addiction and he came to tell us his tale. He grew up in Brooklyn where his parents threw a crazy Purim party every year. When he was just 13, he started drinking with friends at this party, which eventually led to his drinking every Friday night and he ultimately became an alcoholic. His drinking led to his experimenting with and then using other drugs and he soon became a full blown drug addict. He poignantly described the hardships and pain that he went through at this time, as he engaged every student in the room.
He explained to us about a few of the many dangers brought about by the use of drugs and alcohol. He described to us how he almost lost his family and his business and he also related that a few of his friends actually died because of their alcohol and other drug use. What was important to hear was that most of his friends that were addicts as teens are still addicts today. During the question and answer period, students asked many questions and found the speaker's answers fitting and interesting. The program ended with a video about how drunk driving affects the lives of so many people, even those who are not in the accidents themselves.
As we go into Purim, the words of Mr. Cabasso are still ringing in our ears. We hope everyone's Purim is enjoyable and safe.

Soccer Continues Dominating
by Zach Stein ('17)
Coming off a win against the Ramaz Rams last week, the Lions were trying to improve their record to 2-0 against the Magen David Warriors.
The Lions started off hot jumping out to a 5-1 lead after the first half. From there on there was no looking back; the final score to the game was 10-1 in favor of MTA.
Key saves from the goalie, Shmuel Bitton ('14), and scoring from freshman Ariel Feuerstein (3 goals) and sophomore Meir Barg (2 goals) really helped the Lions secure their victory. The Lions look to improve their win streak with a game this Monday night against Flatbush.
