Makor Chaim Update - Week 3

Click here for more pictures from week 3 of Makor Chaim

This week in Makor Chaim has been the best so far! It started out with all of us enjoying some of the comforts of home, staying with family or friends for Shabbat. On Sunday, we all got back to the Yeshiva rejuvenated and ready for the week ahead. That night we played a game where one person had to guess which definition of a Hebrew word was correct out of the ones he was provided. On Monday we had a great day in school, followed by a grade-wide activity where we watched The Truman Show and had an enlightening discussion on its messages for our lives. Tuesday was a regular day of classes- at least as regular as you can get in Makor Chaim! This Wednesday we had classes instead of our usual trip, and ended with our usual Chaburah with Rabbi Taragin. Finally, we prepared for our big weekend in Tel Aviv and Tzefat!

MTA Wins Big in Novice Debate

On Tuesday night, the MTA Debate team ran a successful Novice competition, where they debated the merits and dangers of the NSA's surveillance tactics. Citing everything from newspaper articles to Congressional briefs to the Constitution, the boys exercised a real passion for this pressing issue. In the end, sophomores Chanina Rothenberg Avraham Tsikhanovski came away with awards for first-place team - a great time was had by all!

Controversial Call Costs Varsity Basketball Lions the Win

On Sunday, the Varsity Basketball Lions took on the TABC Storm in the Max Stern Athletic Center. It was a tight back and forth game, and with just seconds left, Eli Lipner ('14) hit two clutch free throws to give the Lions the lead. Up by one as time on the clock expired, the Lions seemed to hold off a last moment scoring attempt by the Storm. Despite photographic evidence that the game was indeed over before the game-winning shot was released, the shot by the Storm was allowed to count sending the home team home with a heart-breaking loss. Although this was a major disappointment, the Lions and their fans maintained their composure and their dignity. In fact, a TABC fan emailed the MTA administration to compliment the MTA team and fans on their behavior despite the controversial call.
Varsity Hockey Defeats Kushner, Falls Short Against TABC
By Jeremy Borgen ('15)
Last Motzaei Shabbos, the Lions took on the Kushner Cobras in the Den. The game had only just started and right away Ami Rosenfeld scored his first goal of the season. The game went on and MTA took a bigger lead. Ezra Quint scored a short-handed goal, Jesse Schwalb scored on a shot from the point, and Zev Markowitz scored on a full court clear. MTA took the game, at 4-1.
On Wednesday, the Lions tried to continue their winning ways when TABC came to the Den. The game started off with a quick goal from TABC, who scored again in the second period and again in the third. Final score: TABC- 3 MTA-0.
