Makor Chaim Exchange Students Enjoy Week #2 by Aryeh Burg ('15)
This past Sunday, which was Asarah b'Teves, the boys went on a moving trip to the Central Jerusalem Prison. This is the place where many people who fought for the independence of Israel were imprisoned by the British. Monday was a normal day of intense learning and spiritual enlightenment at the yeshiva. On Tuesday, however, the boys had their emotions put to the test during their visit to the famous holocaust museum, Yad Vashem. Later that night, the students shared their emotions over a delicious meal at their host family house. Wednesday was a regular day until the evening when the students rushed to pack for their weekend excursion. On Thursday, the boys woke up bright and early to do some last minute packing for their four day trip to Tel Aviv/Yaffo, Meron, and Tzefat. When they arrived in Tel-Aviv, they went to the 49th floor of the Azrieli Observatory, which overlooks the entire Tel Aviv. The group also took a tour of the old Jewish section, and concluded with a trip to the coastline that was a block away from the Yeshiva in which they stayed the night.
For Shabbos, the group will be in Tzefat, meeting with Rav Elazar Mordecha Kenig in Tzefat. Rav Kenig oversees Nachal Novea Mekor Chochma Institutions, including Kiryat Breslov (a religious housing complex), a Kollel, the Magen Avos Yeshiva, the historic Trisk Synagogue in the Old City, and the new five story Torah Center.

Honors College Seniors Present Capstone Projects
This year, the Honors College leadership instituted a new program for its senior members. In order to reinforce the ideals that were so adeptly and attentively studied for four years, each student was charged with the task of creating a capstone project, a culminating achievement, to complete their years in the Honors College. The diligent seniors immediately got to work on what would be a seminal work, their most valuable contribution to themselves and their school. In bittersweet anticipation of graduating from MTA this year, each 'Chaver' has spent countless hours on his project and, to date, many fruits of their tiring labors have already sprouted. This past Tuesday, the senior Honors College gathered together for discussion of their 'capstone' projects. Each group presented their work to an attentive and engaged audience, while the HC advisory board listened and advised. Some of the most impressive projects that were presented included a printed publication of original Torah ideas from MTA students and rebbeim, as well as an in-depth, full-color, spiral bound publication of an updated extra-curricular guide to assist the underclassmen of MTA in getting involved in all that the school has to offer. The HC advisors are to be commended and thanked for their tireless devotion to our continued success, and their invaluable comments and critiques that help the HC cohort grow into the upstanding students that they are today.

Rabbi Eli Cohn's shiur utilized the "Casual Friday" Chanukah Auction win by Yosef Stern ('16) this past Thursday; students (and rebbi) were allowed to wear whatever casual clothing they desired for the day.
-
On Wednesday, we once again welcomed close to 60 8th grade students from around the tri-state area who came to spend the day at MTA. Visitors had the opportunity to sit in on shiurim and classes, meet with students, participate in a range of our extra-curricular activities, and hear more about what makes the MTA experience so exceptional.

LIONS UPDATE

Varsity Basketball Wins Big by Efraim Tepler ('14)
This past Monday Night, the Lions traveled to the Sephardic Center in Brooklyn to take on Ohr HaTorah. This game was lopsided from the onset, with the Lions dominating offensively all night long. The game was the highest scoring affair thus far for MTA as the Lions put up 80 points. 13 players scored for MTA, most notably Shai Kaminetzky (12 pts), Shmuel Shienfil (10), Ben Zion Feld (10), Zak Lenik (8), Yosef Sklar (7) and Ezra Teichman (7). The Lions' big men, led by Ben Zion Feld, Hami Alexander, Eli Lipner, Yoni Kram and Meir Finkelstein, exhibited selfless passing all game. Varsity Hockey Lions Bounce Back Against Frisch by Eli Weinstein ('13) The Lions needed a bounceback win, and a bounceback win they produced. The Varsity Hockey Lions took on the Frisch Cougars this past Saturday night in Paramus, NJ. Defenseman Akiva Pudell ('14) showed the Cougars both his defensive and offensive skills, scoring two goals to jump-start the Lions' strong evening. The highlight of the night (and maybe the season) was when Daniel Jaroslawicz ('14) split the defense with a crafty, yet beautiful lead pass to Captain Menachem Mermelstein ('13) who did what he does best and knocked the ball into the back of the net. All team members contributed to the win, including backup goaltender Dani Nissel. The Lions ended up defeating the Cougars 7-2.

Calling All MTA Alumni, Parent and Faculty Authors!
The Yeshiva University High School for Boys community is replete with authors in all fields, from Tanakh to Topology, so the Library is creating a YUHSB bookshelf to celebrate them. This display, which will be given prominent place in the Library, will feature MTA-related authors-including alumni, parent and faculty authors. If you have published a book on any topic (including children's books or how-to), please send the Library the title/citation or better, yet, a copy! Articles in magazines or scholarly journals are also most welcome.
If you have any questions or ideas, please contact Danielle Lewis, YUHSB Librarian, at dlewis@yuhsb.org. Thank you for your participation!
