MTA Celebrates Chanukah by Moshe Bochner ('13)
On Wednesday, the fourth day of Chanukah, the entire student body of MTA took part in the Yeshiva's annual Chanukah Chagigah. Upon entering Weissberg Commons, students were treated to a scrumptious breakfast of bagels, cereal, ice cream, and, of course, latkes and donuts. After breakfast, world famous singer and musician Eitan Katz began his wondrous performance, singing Chanukah classics like "Al Hanisim", as well as a new nigun. As the music reverberated through the vast expanses of Belfer Hall's main floor, students, rebbeim and faculty took to the dance floor, celebrating the Chag with lively and spirited dancing. In addition to Eitan Katz's performance, the MTA |

Chorus performed "Chazak" and "Al Hanisim". The Chorus' performance of "Chazak" can be viewed on YouTube. Following that, the MTA Band, led by soloist Yitzy Dier, performed "Too Close" in their debut. We were thrilled to be joined at the Chagigah by YU President Richard Joel, who participating in the dancing and spoke about the need for us to feel the responsibility to bring light to the world. President Joel's remarks can also be viewed on YouTube. Rabbi Taubes delivered a dvar torah as well, focusing on the importance of always striving for the best. |

In addition to the musical festivities of the Chagigah, the annual Chinese Auction winners were drawn on Wednesday. This year, all proceeds were donated to Torah Letzion, an organization founded by MTA alumnus Marc Merrill ('07) that provides scholarship to students studying in Israel post-high school, and to an organization working with Hurricane Sandy victims. Some of the prizes included meals and Shabbotonim with Rebbeim, Ski Trips, Brooklyn Nets floor tickets, iPods, and much more. |

We would like to thank Rabbi Green for organizing this incredible event. We would also like to thank our musical contingent of Eitan Katz, MTA Chorus, MTA Band, and David Ross for making the Chagigah an inspiring one and for infusing all in attendance with the spirit and ruach befitting of such a joyous occasion. Throughout the rest of the week, many shiur had individual Chanukah parties in their rebbi's home community. Students had the opportunity to eat & sing, and many participated in sports activities as well. Many more pictures available on Flickr.

MTA 2012 Graduates Create Inspirational Video About Recent Events in Israel
After the week of terror in Israel, two 2012 graduates of MTA, who are currently studying there in Yeshivat Lev Ha Torah, captured the intense emotions and created an incredibly inspiring song, and accompanying video, to describe our attachment and support of our homeland. Gabe Rosenfeld, wrote, composed, and provided some vocals, while Eitan Kurtz co-produced. As the YouTube description explains, "The song describes the emotions of a young man who loses contact with his younger brother during a "Tzeva Adom" - Red Alert Siren. This song is not just a beautiful attempt at understanding our brothers and what they are going through but it is also a sign of hope. If Klal Yisrael can begin to care, feel, and pray about other Jews around the world regardless of affiliation, then maybe situations like this would not even occur."

- Rabbi Taubes, as well as members our Guidance Department, addressed each grade about a recent newspaper article, which accused two MTA staff members of abuse in the 1970's and early 1980's. Noting that the alleged misconduct took place decades ago and involved people who have had no affiliation with MTA for many years, Rabbi Taubes urged the students to feel justifiably proud of the wonderful yeshiva high school that we have now. At the same time, he stressed that students need to know that our yeshiva is an environment in which all students must feel that they are completely safe at all times and that there are responsible adults here whom they can approach for assistance whenever necessary. He then turned the floor over to members of our Guidance Department who reminded everyone that they are always available to help any student in need and to meet with him about any issue that may be troubling him. It was made clear to the students how any inproper behavior would be handled today. Rabbi Taubes' message to the MTA Community can be viewed on our homepage.

Wrestling Lions Finish 5th at Alvarez Tournament by Yehuda Brick ('13)
This past Sunday the MTA wrestling team went to the annual Jay Alvarez Wrestling Tournament in the Bronx. With individual match wins from the majority of our wrestlers, we were able to take 5th place team at the tournament. Lead by our fearless leaders, Yonah Stromer (who placed first in his weight class) and Sruli Baum (who placed second in his) we came out successful. Along with Sruli and Yonah, we also had contributions from Michael Amuev and Naftali Horowitz, who took second and third place in their weight classes, respectively. Each of the four wrestlers had to win multiple tough matches to get their medals, and they were therefore definitely well deserved. For some it was easier than others -- as veteran captains Yonah and Sruli cruised through the early matches -- but Michael and Naftali were able to pull out some tough wins. All the wrestlers deserve congratulations, and we wish them good luck at this Sunday's Port Richmond tournament!

Calling All MTA Alumni, Parent and Faculty Authors!
The Yeshiva University High School for Boys community is replete with authors in all fields, from Tanakh to Topology, so the Library is creating a YUHSB bookshelf to celebrate them. This display, which will be given prominent place in the Library, will feature MTA-related authors-including alumni, parent and faculty authors. If you have published a book on any topic (including children's books or how-to), please send the Library the title/citation or better, yet, a copy! Articles in magazines or scholarly journals are also most welcome.
If you have any questions or ideas, please contact Danielle Lewis, YUHSB Librarian, at dlewis@yuhsb.org. Thank you for your participation!
