Foundation Announces Winner of
3rd Annual Don Poole Award
Sacramento, Calif., (3/7/2014) - The Sacramento Region Community Foundation announced Elfrena Foord as the recipient of the third annual Don Poole Award for significant contributions to the Foundation's mission of growing philanthropy in our region.
"Elfrena was unanimously selected by the Foundation because she embodies the spirit of philanthropy. She strongly believes that everyone should leave the world a better place by giving, and is passionate about how estate planning can be positive for families and the charities they support," said Sacramento Region Community Foundation CEO Linda Beech Cutler.

Ebersole & Pajak Financial Services and has consulted with clients for over 30 years on financial planning matters. She epitomizes the award because of her personal commitment to charitable causes, devotion to educating clients about charitable giving, and mentoring of fellow advisors to support clients' philanthropy. Foord has served on the Foundation's board, still serves on numerous committees, and has personally established three charitable funds, encouraging gifts in the thousands of dollars from others who share her passion for helping former foster youth make a better life for themselves.
Don Poole, a veteran estate planning attorney and former Community Foundation board member, spent 38 years at McDonough, Holland & Allen. Don died in 2009, leaving an inspiring legacy for fellow advisors. Don's practice included creating plans for large and small estates that required sophisticated charitable giving techniques. He believed that it is vital for estate planners to ask about the clients' charitable intent and to help them reach their goals while achieving favorable tax status. As Don often stated to clients, "I am going to get you to part with your money and you will like it because the IRS loses and your family and the community wins."
The Foundation also announced that 10 local advisors, including Foord, received its 2014 Bridge Builder award for their roles in encouraging donors to achieve their charitable objectives through the Foundation. Because of the honorees' efforts, a number of funds with extremely diverse charitable purposes were brought to the Foundation, offering support for community efforts such as:
