Spring Fishing Is Here
March Trade-In Days Only 9 Days Away!!
____________________________________________________________

Dear (Contact First Name),
Thank you for being with us again!  The Stretch is alive with trout and later in the afternoon has shown good brownie action with the water around 38 degrees!  The 1st video below is of Daniel Braun discussing water, Pine, our trout, his techniques, and his experiences a few weeks ago. The 2nd video is also of Dan and his grandson Doug Swartz as Dan catches very nice brown trout on "The Stretch." The 3rd video is of large Black and Brown Stone Flies on the bark of a tree at water's edge at Tomb Flats - late January and early February.   The 4th is a video we present yearly showing Camp Victory - this is where our spinning outfits that are traded in for the March trade-in go - the camp has never had to buy fishing equipment since its inception.  Not only do you get a 20% discount, but the very special individuals get an outfit they can call their own!  There is a lot more planned as we start to stock the big trout in just a few weeks.  Stop in at the shop and say hello on your way to our great fishery!

Time To Retire

It has been 40 years since we started the shop.  So much has happened on Pine Creek since then - Babb Creek is a trout stream, Pine's fly hatches have prospered and multiplied, The Stretch (Catch-And-Release) where everyone can catch exceptional trout year round has expanded to 2.8 miles, and the culture of conservation, appreciation, and joy of this very special stretch of Pine Creek is prospering.  If you've entertained the thought of owning Wolfes General Store/Slate Run Tackle Shop, this is your opportunity.  Give Lisa Lynn a call at 570-660-0626, a Davis Real Estate realtor.  Thanks, Tom & Deb.

Just a few more casts...
(Or the 1st cast of spring)...

Well, the time many anglers wait for each year is finally here!  The Stretch was not iced over this winter and the hold-over population that were stocked a year ago, for the most part, except for those that fell prey to resident eagles, should be doing well!  The trout pictures I've seen from anglers coming into the shop after fishing have been impressive.
What has impressed me most are the attitudes of the anglers who have come into the shop all winter.  From the fishermen who spent more time in Pine Creek than the woods during hunting season to those that are "regulars" during the "off" months, these sports men and women, and kids, had a spirit that was truly uplifting!  To a one they would say how great it was to drive into the valley and work their way to Slate Run.  They all exuded a special joy that is all too rare today - not so with these anglers.  They all said they didn't need to catch trout to have fun, just being here did the trick.  It is interesting though because most did catch trout, and in numbers that were surprising for wintertime.
I think as the years pass, anglers are on "The Stretch" more and more in December through March and have learned the habits of the trout at different times of the day, they've learned their habits in varying types of weather, they've learned where the fish will position themselves, and they know the trout are definitely there.
Certainly, they have also developed a confidence that allows them to have a methodical approach and presentation.  If you are not dressed against the cold, if you are uncomfortable, or if you have not had a hook-up, it is much harder to maintain a positive attitude. Once you do learn a few basics for the colder weather fishing, the pleasures are multiplied - the trout are a bonus, as well as having unlocked a secret that common wisdom always spoke against.  You remember, "Trout are semi-dormant once the water drops below 42 degrees and you almost have to hit them on the nose to get them to take." Well, that is just not true!  Check out the videos above of Dan Braun, he knows the secret.  Better yet, come on up and catch a few yourself!
In a few weeks we will begin the Brown Trout Club's stocking in The stretch and I am told the trout are even bigger than last year's big ones.  Watch the stream updates and we'll try to let you know in advance when we'll be putting them in - we would appreciate your help!  Until then, may you have windless days and tight lines...
