Tom Announces Delayed Harvest Public Meeting

The meeting Tom announced above is of utmost importance. Please come to support this wonderful opportunity to expand the Delayed Harvest Stretch while further enhancing our wonderful trout fishery! The second video below is a glimpse of a bucket of the Brown Trout Club's German Browns swimming to freedom at the new Tomb Flats Boat Launch. The third is of Ethan Albright, 18 years old, catching a real nice brownie in last week's higher water. The fourth is a picture of Colton and Chris Cassel with Colton's beautiful brown trout. Below, please read the letter Chris wrote in support of the Delayed Harvest Extension. And the last is a short video of a caddis hatch at Tomb Flats late in May that went on for hours with only a few pauses! Enjoy!

What's working...
The main fly that is working is the March Brown on the surface! The Gray Fox is also popping up on the surface in impressive numbers and it is a good idea to drop a soft hackle about two feet off the bend of the hook. There are increasing numbers of Light Cahills in cream, yellow and orange, I've seen them from a size 12 to 16. BWOs and Rusty Spinners are prevalent but most of the action seems to be on the larger flies. The large Yellow Stone is hatching in excellent numbers and this evening there were more Green Drakes hatching - I only saw one Coffin Fly (Green Drake Spinner), but, regardless of how few there are at this point, the Drakes have begun!

Just a few more casts...

It seems everyday someone comes into the shop with wonderful description and/or insight into Pine and its trout and insects. Many times the insight translates into something much deeper and consuming, something that our area and waters inspire that reaches to the very core of our lives and our values. Below, printed with the consent of the writer, is a letter written by Chris Cassel that perfectly states Slate Run Tackle Shop's thoughts about the Delayed Harvest Extension. Thank you Chris for letting us print your letter, and for the picture below of you and your son and a wonderful Pine Creek Brown. The smiles say it all!

"My sons Colton, Lee and I have been fly fishing Cedar Run and Pine Creek since they were old enough to hold a fly rod.  We have many beautiful memories of fishing these pristine waters of Pennsylvania.  As a 7th grade Science teacher I see a priceless opportunity to model true conservation for our younger generation by designating another section of Pine Creek into an artificial lures/fly fishing delayed harvest area.  I feel people who are opposed to this idea are not in touch with our youth of today.  Kids today understand the dire need for conservation and preservation of our natural resources.  Kids today are just as happy casting a rooster tail as they are night crawler.  Kids today are happier taking a picture of the fish they catch with their iPod and releasing it than putting it on their stringer and taking it home.  I encourage you to do the right thing for our natural resources and our youth by protecting Pine Creek for the future.  Teach a kid to fish and he will become a conservationist.
Sincerely,
Chris Cassel"
