Annual One Call Board Audit - Every year the

Texas One Call Board

audits the notification centers operating in Texas. The purpose of the audit is to make sure the centers' performance meets or exceeds the requirements in the damage prevention law, as well as other standards that have been agreed upon. This year's audit is scheduled for Friday, August 1st at the Texas811 Contact Center, and several of the One Call Board members will attend.

This year, we will suggest some changes to the performance standards to better reflect the realities of doing business in the 21st Century. When the law was passed, way back in September 1999, all contact centers (including ours) were indeed CALL centers. There were a couple of other ways to make contact with the center (remember faxing?) but over 80% of communications happened over the telephone. Consequently, it was very important that routine phone calls were answered promptly - of course, emergency calls always have been (and always will be) answered IMMEDIATELY.

Texas811 Supports the Texas Gas Association

Throughout the years, Texas811 has always had a great relationship with the Texas Gas Association (TGA). Because the Natural Gas and Pipelines Industries not only must adhere to the State Damage Prevention Law, they also fall under the jurisdiction of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) in addition to the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC). Due to the nature of these additional regulations, a strong damage prevention program such as Texas811's is a great asset to them.

The TGA is composed of more than 100 Texas gas distribution and transmission companies, including representatives of both municipal and investor-owned systems. The membership also includes numerous master meter operators. Association members serve more than 99 percent of the gas distribution customers in the State of Texas. The membership also includes more than 120 associate members and more than 250 individual members.
